There are quite a few Bible verses which suggest that we, the Africans south of the Sahara, or at least a huge proportion of us, are descendants of the ancient Israelites. The Israelites were dispersed, in other words, forced to flee the region, in fulfilment of Bible prophecy in the 70 AD siege, invasion, and destruction, of Jerusalem by Roman forces. By conservative estimates, up to 1 million Israelites fled into Africa. That population, nearly 2000 years ago, would have ballooned to over 600 to 800 million by today, accounting for much of the population of Africa today, which stands at 1 billion.

This could be be referring to any peoples at any point in history, people been moving around "from one end of the earth to the other for sometime now", eskimos, Vandals, Vikings, Israelites, etc. As they move they adopt the gods of other lands and most times incorporate them into their pantheons.
