Some comments her just prove the level of ignorance, the president is by law required to hand over to his deputy when travelling abroad except for diplomatic reasons,but what do I know when the president is certificateless and most of our judges have LLB in Sharia 1 Like 1 Share |

Our constitution is one of the biggest problems facing Nigeria today. It is not clear enough. Each time a section is being challenged in court. Well, it's either we have it rewritten or we encourage people like this to keep addressing the flaws for clarity. Always work in progress... |

Intelligence has been over taken by ignorance on this forum. Most who are mocking he lawyer fail to grasp how dire the political situation has become. The same people who are without jobs, if they do they are barely making ends meat, soak gari on a daily basis. When you become impervious to your own poverty and the source of that poverty your claim of having a functioning brain needs to be disregarded. |

This is suicide as much as he has every right to sue him but still this is Nigeria where whatever buhari says is law I pity for that man because very soon he will be kidnapped and put somewhere where no one else will see him or even hear from him ever again because buhari is a terrorist not a president |

I am disappointed in a lot of youths calling the man attention seeker. This shows that we deify our leaders and they also denigrate us in return because we're just foot mats to them. Just imagine your father traveling away without telling anyone in the family where he's going and not only that, he takes the house keys with him leaving you the children and ur mum outside with no protection, feeding or comfort whatsoever. I'm sure if your mum were to call him out you'll call her an attention seeker. Irresponsible lots you all are |

delugajackson: There is no hand over clause in our constitution. This is what the constitution says in section 145;
In effect, immediately, the president informs the Senate that he is going on vacation, the vice president automatically becomes the acting president. I don't know where you guys get the hand over idea from. 1 Like |

The lawyer asked the court to clarify whether the Constitution or any other law for that matter, permits the President to exercise Presidential authority over the affairs of Nigeria from any country outside the territorial jurisdiction of Nigeria, save when he is out of the country on official diplomatic engagements. To insinuate that the president write the national assembly each time he leaves Nigeria is not only senseless, it is impracticable. Even in the US from where we copied our democracy, the US presidents goes abroad for days without the need to inform the Congress. Furthermore, Trump often spend days on his Maralargo resort without any issues. What the constitution says is that the president must write the national assembly if he is taking a holiday or if he is unable to discharge his duties due to other factors. It did not say hello must write everything he leaves Nigeria, even on private visits. This lawyer must have a different constitution from the one we are currently using. He first says that the Constitution does not have extra-territorial application, he then went on to put a caveat; save when he is outside the country on official diplomatic engagements. There is no where in the constitution that it says that it is only when the president is outside the country on official diplomatic engagements, that he has extra-territorial jurisdiction to govern the country. 1 Like |
