Since after the general elections, a lot has been happening underground with party faithfuls lobbying for one post or the other, thus the Presidential Villa has been receiving entreaties from the high and mighty for consideration for ministerial and other appointments. While this is expected here in Nigeria as in other democracies, what has become disturbing is the emergence of certain persons who want to eat their cakes and have it.

The situation becomes very worrisome where some members of a party work against their
parties in the expectation that the opposition will win the election, and when their party eventually wins, they turn around to clamour for positions, like wolves in sheep’s clothing.

These kind of persons appear to be members of the party in the open, but behind the scene they
join hands with the opposition to run down their own party. In all considerations, this set of people are far more dangerous than the opposition because they often times have access to sensitive information and strategy of the party which, in their conspiratorial nature, make available to the opposition, to the detriment of their own party. What could be more dangerous? It becomes too disheartening to see such people running to the Presidency with a plea to be considered for one appointment or another.

Such scenario played out in full during the last general elections in Abia State. It is a known issue today that there were so many betrayals in the party by some stake holders of the party. Most conspicuous is that of Prince Paul Ikonne who at a time could not even hide his romance with the opposition PDP.

He was, no doubt, among the aspirants who contested for the governorship
primaries in APC, and having failed woefully during the primaries with less than two per cent
(2%) of the entire votes cast, he decided to involve on a derailing mission, with a view to
sabotaging APC in the state. While other guber aspirants saw reason to join forces together in the interest of the party, Prince Paul Ikonne had other plans altogether against our dear party APC. The aspirant who came second in the guber primaries namely, Rt. Hon (Barr)Martins Azubuike, submitted to be the running mate of the ticket holder in the state, and the third in the context, Barr. F.N Nwosu (SAN), humbly accepted to serve as the Deputy Director General of the guber candidate’s Uche Ogah Campaign Organisation. Notably, there was no known rancour after the guber primaries as all others, pledged to work for the victory of the party in the state, except Prince Paul Ikonne whose intention was to do the spoiler’s job ab initio .

At first, he was doing this clandestinely, passing strategic information of the party to the opposition PDP, and later, when it seemed to him his moves were
not yielding much result, he came out openly to declare support for the guber candidate of PDP, while still maintaining membership of APC.

If he had done this on his own alone, it would have been less painful. Rather he went as far as issuing an open statement saying that ALL the LGA party chairmen, stakeholders and party faithfuls from the Ukwa Ngwa area of the state had authorised him to speak and declare support for the guber candidate of the PDP, on behalf of APC. For avoidance of doubt, please see the link below:
https://naijawatchdog.com/2019/03/07/apc-ukwa-ngwa-disowns-paul-ikonne-over-ikpeazus-endorsement/

This, in all intent and purpose, was a criminal act of impersonation, and an anti party activity of the highest order. The APC in the state, through its publicity secretary, immediately moved to dispel such anti party
announcement and today Prince Paul Ikonne is at the verge of being suspended by the party. Despite that, Prince Ikonne remains unrepentant and defiant, carrying his shoulders high in his usual arrogant manner, in the belief that all punitive measures against him would amount to nothing because, in his opinion, President Buhari did a courtesy call on his father HRH Eze Ikonne during his campaign visit to Abia State. In Paul Ikonne’s view, President Buhari listens to his father and therefore nothing else matters. Further to this, he has often cited President Buhari’s comment during his campaign visit in Imo State as an excuse to perpetuate such hideous crime. In Prince Ikonne’s dubious
interpretation of President Buhari’s comment in Owerri, the president had authorised any APC person who wished to support any guber candidate from another party to do so without any qualms.
But every body knows that President Buhari in his honest comments never said or meant anything like that in any way.

It has now come as a shock to the good people of APC in the state to hear that Prince Paul
Ikonne is equally lobbying through his father HRH Eze Ikonne, and is expecting to be given a ministerial appointment! This is as ridiculous as it is appalling. If somebody of Prince Paul
Ikonne’s person is given a ministerial appointment for Abia slot by the President, it means then that rascality has become officially enshrined in our dear party APC. There are so many worthy Abia personalities who are eminently qualified to serve as minister, those who laboured
tirelessly for the success of the party in the last general elections, and who before then have
been mobilising at all fronts for the party. What Prince Paul Ikonne has always done for Abia
APC is to cause disunity by among other things, insisting on maintaining a faction with Chief Ikechi Emenike, in
flagrant disobedience to the party, both at the state and National level. A mention of Prince
Ikonne’s name today brings to mind of every Abia APC person someone whose stock in trade is to cause confusion and disharmony.

No doubt Prince Paul Ikonne purchased the APC form for the guber primaries in Abia, just like about six others, but aside that, there was nothing more anyone can remember of him other than someone who derives joy in making sure that something does not go in an orderly manner . Abians have not forgotten his attempt to deceive the party before the guber primaries, when he went on saying that President Buhari had ordered that he be given the party ticket without any competition. In this mischief, he simply relied on an innocent photo President Buhari took with him while he was holding the APC guber form.
If purchasing the guber form is a criterion for ministerial appointment, then Abia APC has qualified, intelligent and credible professionals who not only purchased the guber form and contested
elections in the state, but were genuine, true and
committed in the exercise, incurring a lot of material costs in the process. If this class of people are ignored
and someone like Prince Paul Ikonne is appointed a minister by the President, then it will be
too bad not only for our dear party APC, but for humanity in general, as a very distasteful precedence must have been set by our dear President.

It is believed that the Presidency will do enough due diligence on potential appointees in order to properly determine who is actually who. The only factor Prince Paul Ikonne is relying on in his
expectation of being appointed a minister is his father’s relationship with President Buhari,
beside that, there is nothing positive one can find about him as to qualify him to handle such an exalted position in Nigeria. And it is the belief of every Nigerian that President Buhari,
being a man of integrity he is, will not sacrifice the interest of the generality of the people
just to please one man. No one can stand against President Buhari in his wish to recognise or appoint any of his friends or their kin based on personal relationship, however it is a plea to the President not to appoint Prince Paul Ikonne a minister because it is such a huge and significant position that everybody is sure will be flagrantly abused by him, to the detriment of not only the ministry but Abians and Nigerians in general.

There must be other ways the president can recognise HRH Eze Ikonne, if he wishes to, other than appointing his son Prince Paul Ikonne a minister. It is believed that President Buhari in his usual meticulous manner will not make this mistake.

As long as it leaves the hands of that itinerant, silent and silly Ofeme-RCCG-Lagos man,no problem......

It's likely going back to an Umuahian or someone from Abia North owing to the fact that they "understandably" should produce the next Governor.

Normally it should not go to the Ukwa-Ngwa people, they have the governorship nah(even though from the opposition)...they also have the State Chairman nah.....this Kota people sef...
