Alcohol is legal and many people decide not to take it.

Cigarette is legal too, many people don't smoke.

Legalizing Marijuana doesn't mean that everybody will start smoking it.

Both Alcohol and Marijuana are intoxicants.

Why legalize one and ban the other?

Akeredolu, Please as you move for the legalisation of Marijuana do not leave our Cocoa,Cotton,Cashew,Sugar cane plantations unattended to.

For a business that is paralegalised already, only the unregulated sector in active connivance with security forces stand to benefit, all other factors highlighted still remains.

I encourage a marijuana cultivation that'll move from farm to the factory only for medicinal production purpose not for smocking.

If this is what akeredolu is canvassing for he should be supported.

If well managed, they will make money from it but Nigeria is not matured to do so.
We live in a lawless country, people will take advantage of it and misuse.
If they want to do so, it will under strict guidance.

BleedingPen:
The move by Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to establish a legal marijuana industry in the ‘sunshine’ state may have hit the rocks even before his very own eyes, Igbere TV reports.

This is just as findings by Igbere TV on Saturday showed that Akeredolu is not likely to find a willing ally in the Federal Government over his pursuit.

Despite the collaboration being received from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the governor has been disowned by the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA), an appendage of the Presidency.

PACEDA, in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Saturday, stated that no amount of money could be worth the lives of those that would be affected should marijuana be legalised in the country, as being canvassed by Akeredolu and, by extension, the NDLEA.

The warning came four days after Governor Akeredolu advised the Federal Government to encourage the cultivation of medicinal cannabis, also known as Indian hemp, in the country.

The statement was signed by the PACEDA Chair, Mohammed Buba Marwa.

Marwa, a retired military top officer, noted that the timing was so inauspicious, considering that the government had been doing everything to eradicate drug abuse in the country.

“It is disturbing that at this time when about 10 million Nigerians are abusing cannabis, anyone or group will be considering or advocating for Nigeria to legalise the growing of marijuana for economic or whatever purposes.

“Our committee has spent the last six months going round the country to obtain firsthand information about the dangers of drug abuse and how to combat it and we have been faced with the stark reality of how deep the menace has damaged and still damaging lives, especially the youths.

“No doubt, President Muhammadu Buhari was worried about this emergency situation, hence the decision to set up PACEDA to find a lasting solution to the threat. We should not, therefore, fold our arms or keep sealed lips while deliberate attempts are being made to sabotage the genuine efforts of the Federal Government in the interest of the nation.

“We should not forget so soon how many over-the-counter (OTC) drugs were made prescription medicines when millions of our young minds and adults were abusing such. How can we then turn around to call for legalising growing of cannabis when the Federal Government is still in the process of curtailing and eliminating the same?

“We dare say that no economic gain is worth the life of any Nigerian daily damaged on the street as a result of the effect of cannabis. There is, therefore, the need for all stakeholders at the federal, state and local government levels to rally round the Federal Government’s efforts at eliminating the menace of drug abuse rather than engaging in any counterproductive venture,” the statement read.

Despite the widespread appeal of Akeredolu's position on social media, some critics have rebuked the governor.

Among those who criticized the governor include Senator Shehu Sani, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly.

Sani, who took to Twitter via his handle @ShehuSani on Wednesday, May 15, wrote;

“My brother Akeredolu, Lagos partnered with Kebbi for rice, please partner with Niger for beans, Kaduna for ginger or partner with Benue for yam. Please leave this Indian Hemp matter for now, abeg.”

But Akeredolu is determined in his pursuit, despite several condemnation and backlash received in the last few days.

“The governor believes that the global legal marijuana industry is primed to be a jumbo in years ahead and Ondo State is trying to think ahead of time,” an aide of the governor, who did not want his name mentioned, told Igbere TV on Saturday.

THIS IS WHY NIGERIA MUST BE RESTRUCTURED INTO A TRUE FEDERAL STATE.

The situation whereby the central government LORD over the states in all matters is unacceptable.

There are states in Nigeria that want to establish STATE POLICE STRUCTURE, the federal government led by President Buhari is against it.

A private entreprenuer invested in strips tease business in his landed property in Abuja, federal government came with Buldozer to wrecked havoc bringing down the whole business with caterpillar on the ground that the owner violated the laws of the land whereas it was an action in disguise because the muslims community led by President Buhari frowns at such an acts.

Some of the girls working for the owner of the strip club in Abuja that was demolished by the federal authority in Abuja were reported to have been raped by the Nigeria police men sent to arrest the occupants of the strip club.

Our crude oil thinking political leaders should travel to LAS VEGAS, USA and see how strip tease, gambling is bringing so much money to the state of NEVADA, USA most of this earnings is from Las Vegas which is one of the headquarter of gambling in the USA.

States want to establish Marijuana business ( at least a legal ones similar to the ones in the Netherland ) the federal government is frowning against it.

Are they conscious of the fact that crude oil value in the international oil market is getting reduce by the day with its attendant economic financial effects where government is experiencing low earnings in the treasury.

It is better a legitimate marijuana farm is establish and properly regulated within the ambits of the law.

NIGERIA POLITICAL LEADERS MUST STRIVE FOR TRUE FEDERALISM TO PUT AN ENDS TO ALL THIS OPPRESSION FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

What nonsense are you saying?

Are people being arrested at random?

You don't seem to have what to say.

Even people who aren't law enforcement agents know 'yahoo boys' when they see them. Dem hard to recognise?

Even if you stopped akeredolu's vision of growing herbs for medicinal purpose, it'll never stop boys from smoking herbs

Herb is a blessing from Jah

Cannabis aint got nothing to do with crime

Criminals dont need cannabis to operate

Research countries like netherland, Canada and some states in America that legalize the plants, and check their crime rate.

In a country with:

a) Porous borders.

b) Inaccurate database of its population.

c) No community police.

d) Underfunded and ill-trained law enforcement officers.

The next thing for governor Akeredolu is cannabis plantation ba? No wahala.

Did the developed countries whom Sowore recommend Nigeria should copy start by planting cannabis?

Did they not get their education, science and technology and manufacturing right first?
You must start and develop

Marijuana business is not allow in our country yet those illegally involve are constant clients to police officers. In my area in Benin u will see Nigeria police driving dia vehicle to this particular place like thrice in a week to come and collect their share. Once they arrive they don't waste time, they are given envelope and u see them zone off. Y not legalise it so that d illegal money taken by dis men on uniform can be directed straight to govt acct. Then u can talk on the abuse and punishment

Is Nigeria better than USA, Ukraine, Canada etc that legalized medicinal marijuana. The problem is some of our leaders are illiterate, and after they will still come out and say this state is not viable. This is a herb created by God which has cured so many chronic diseases. Wake up FAILED COUNTRY

This is why you need true federalism. Buhari should not dictate to states.
States can legalise prostitution, medical marijuana, and make money and create jobs.

But I guess, it's not tinubu's priority.

The constitution needs amending since srugs abd poison under exclusive list.

Prostitution can be legalized with law change at federal level. It could be vetoed easily though.
