How Do I Learn to Be Discipline in Preparing for My CIS Exams?


You checked your calendar or your phone for the date and
discovered that It’s just three months left to CIS Exams and then you said,

“OOOhhhh! time is too fast these days, abegi! I will start reading by tomorrow“.

Tomorrow comes again and you say to yourself again,

“Haaaa!!! I don’t know where the time is running to ooo, wooo!!! Let me just start by weekends.”

and this continues until exams are knocking on your front door.

It might seem funny but we are all guilty of that. You strategize
and make plans on how you will effectively study for
an exam but still you find yourself doing irrelevant things.

According to one of my students, Mercy, who
made plans on starting her exams preparations since a month ago
but still finds herself doing nothing about it as every day passes by,
she just keeps giving herself one excuses after another.

And now it’s just three months to the exams.

“My fear is that if I continue like this, I will end up not
preparing well for this exam due to my procrastinating attitude” Mercy said to me

I shared some tips with her so as to help her stay disciplined in
preparing for her exams. I would like to share
some of the tips with you as well;

First, you have to get rid of temptations because
Self-discipline becomes very easy when the things or
people that distract you are out of sight, out of reach.
Make sure before you start studying, your mobiles phones and
every other garget are switched off or completely out of site.
For some people that put their phones very close to them and
have active internet. Immediately they get a notification sound,
the urge to reply the message is always there. Therefore,
it is advised to put your mobile phones away when studying.
And try to get rid of every other temptation too.

Secondly, you have to stop the habit of perfect timing.
The truth be told, you do not need to wait for a perfect time to
start studying for your exams. Use the available time to
study for your exams; the available time is the perfect time.
Yes, we all want that time when we will be gingered;
when our body, spirit, and mind will be synchronized to study.
Most times, the so-called ‘perfect timing’ might
not show up. Probably until the exam is in a few weeks or
it might not even come due to unforeseen circumstances.
Therefore, the habit of perfect timing should be stopped
instead discipline yourself to read when there is available time. It pays more.

We are going to pause here for today, in my next article,
I will share with you the reason why it is important to
discipline yourself as you start preparing for your CIS exams and
give you other tips you need to achieve that.

P.S.With self–discipline most, anything is possible. Self–discipline is what separates the winners and the losers.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Job Outlook 2018 Survey there exists a handful of significant skills that employers are seeking from new college grads.who are about to enter the workforce.
Below you’ll find the skills hiring managers say need to be part of the college grad repertoire. So if you’re on the hunt for an entry level job, read on to learn what these skills are and how to master them.

*Ability to work in a team

Unlike your career as a student, where you're really the only one who can make or break your success, the workplace depends on teams of people to get the job done. No surprise that 82.9% of hiring managers want to know you can work well with lots of different personalities. You'll need to learn how to delegate, take direction, value differences of opinion, play to your and your co-workers' strengths and weaknesses, and to point out your co-workers' contributions to projects.


*Critical thinking/problem-solving

This year, there was a tie for first place, as 82.9% of managers want to see new college graduates tout excellent problem-solving skills. Many hiring managers use behavioural interview questions—phrases such as "tell me about a time when" or "give me an example of"—to assess a job candidate’s critical-thinking ability. Thus, you’ll want to prepare anecdotes that paint you as a problem solver. And trust me, it will be tough giving employers examples when you don't have work experience.



*Writing proficiency

The survey found that 80.3% of managers feel writing proficiency is the most desirable hard skill among recent college graduates. Submitting a well crafted cover letter is crucial, but there are some other unconventional ways to highlight your writing chops.
If you volunteered to be the secretary for a group project in college, include that on your resume,depending on the nature of the industry—marketing, communications or journalism to name a few—you might also bring writing samples with you to job interviews.


*Leadership

It’s a tall order: 72.6% of hiring managers want potential hires with great leadership skills. Believe it or not, there are ways you can show possible employers that you have leadership potential before you even enter the workforce.
If you held a leadership role in college (e.g., president of the French club), highlight it on your resume. If you emerged as the informal leader on a group project, talk about the experience during the job interview. Also, get letters of recommendation from former internship managers that speak to your leadership skills.


*Strong work ethic

You need to be committed to your job responsibilities and understand that doing your job is more than just a means to a paycheck—after all, a company stands for something beyond business and so should you. That's why 68.4% of hiring managers want to see new hires demonstrate a strong work ethic. Show up on time, be engaged in your work, and act with integrity.

A friend of mine who worked with the Telecoms (Telecommunication)
told me of how he had worked with the three main
Telecommunication companies in Nigeria, his service was so
needed because of his expertise, the last Telecoms company had to
sign an exclusive agreement with him with a huge offer for him not to
go back to other Telecoms companies.
Today he works in the UK for a Telecommunication firm.

I also remember when I was still in paid job,
our accountant was so good that the company could not let her go,
they had to sign a long term contract with her.
She had save the company millions of naira in terms of Tax payment and
has brought in more jobs for the company.

Sometimes, getting career independence could just be as simple as
having enough savings or side hustle such that you are not
100 percent dependent on your monthly salary.

If you don’t have side hustle with your work yet, just review all of your expenses,
and trim the ones that don’t matter.

Financial freedom can actually give you career freedom.

It is important that you take a closer reflection at your professional life to
achieve career independence, but there is no better time than NOW.

I felt I should share it with you.

The future of work is already upon us and it is clearly defined by Technology. By the year 2025, which is just about few years from now, a lot of jobs would have been taken over by Technology, because the rapid transformation experienced in the world in the last fifty years is six times more than that experienced in the thousands of years of world existence. There’s a hot question on every accountant’s mind, keeping them up at night. Will accountants become obsolete? Technology is emerging. The rise of the robots and software are causing many accountants to toss and turn with worry and distress. With the entrance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), accountants are concerned about being replaced by high tech.

Results from a recent 2017 PwC study show that 40% of the accounts payable process can be automated―including timely tasks such as billing and reporting
.

Now more than ever, finance departments are exploring automation options to manage the accountant’s manual tasks. Humans may specialize in crunching the numbers for financial insight, but robots are revolutionizing the role.

THE REVOLUTION OF THE ROBOTS AND SOFTWARES

In the past, companies relied on accountants for accurate reporting, financial visibility, and long-term growth. For many accounting roles, the average day included manually entering invoices, writing checks, and chasing managers for approvals, not to mention creating countless spreadsheets and formulas to manage workflow statuses, approvals, and product purchases.

Miscalculations, typos, and correcting other human errors―otherwise known as the exception rate—weighed down the work hours. In a recent survey, Aberdeen pointed out that trusting the robots with AP processes boosts accuracy by 6.74%, decreasing the exception rate with a few clicks.
