Good ideas, 50yrs is a GOLDEN AGE, but is there anything shining in Nigeria where ordinary METRO LINE can not function , you go to offices daily on average of 2,3to 4hrs as we are travelling out of the country, we waste the money to take care of our families and ourselves on taking bike in other to meet up with time of office, we can not afford to sleep in our house for 4-5hours except those that have their businesses even those one can not even sleep comfortably. these are because no SECURITY to human life in all parameter in this country

My fellow Nairalanders, until there is total revolution in this country where the so call continuity will not be a permanent avenue for a sole family to be ruling this country totally for as long as they feel they are ok of arrogating the wealth of this country to themselves alone.

Ha haa haaa haaaa!!!!

Handshake to you,I dont understand how this is positive in any way? .50 naira is pretty much worthless, 50pounds can feed you for a week same as 50 dollars, from a country that produces 3 million barrels of crude oil a DAY.
Go ahead follow zimbabwe, which has a 10 million bill.

the minting of fifty naira note is done on a regular basis;

there is nothing wasteful if the government desides to add a logo on some new notes to commemorate our independence;

can some of the cynics who claim this is wasteful, explain what additional cost this would bring to bear on our national economy, since the oldĀ  naira note is not being phased out.

I would have thought that the N20 note would have been a better choice for the commemorative note as it already has our colors

The same day Nigeria is celebrating 5oyrs of independence. China is celebrating 61yrs of Communist rule by sending man to the moon for the 2nd time. What a way of showing of progress?

What do we want from the govt, wheather we like it or not Govt must keep spending money.

Printing new notes is not a bad idea as a lot of us are always irritated when we see old notes or find it difficult to have change and have to quarrel with bus conductors and taxi drivers when there is no change, I am sure a lot of us has not noticed how the lower denomination seems to be everywhere any time i enter a bus I am pleasantly surprised when a conductor would gladly give 3 N50 naira notes as change.

Those talking of priorities must take into cognicance that because a task is num 10 on a list it must be done after task num 1.

Let me explain; for instance priority num 1 is build a power plant and num 2 is build a refinery and priority num 10 is printing a new N50 note for the independence anniversary. The power plant can not be completed in 6weeks or 6months and the refinery also would have to be designed on paper maybe after taking a location and then identifying the source of the funds to complete the project but in printing new notes we have been printing notes already so all you have to do is go to the account being used to print money and allocate the necessary funds then give a directive to the printers and Oct 1st new N50 notes are ready, even though it is number 10 on the priority list.

Nigerians there is no where in the world where the RICH will be imPOVERished or where the POOR would be enRICHed, all over the world the RICH will always be enRICHed while the POOR would always feel imPOVERished, so the decision is yours to make do you see your self as a RICH getting RICHER or as a man in POVERTY getting IMPOVERISHED.

Happy 50th anniversary Nigeria I wish you GOODLUCK as you move into the future.

GOODLUCK NIGERIA!!!

Re: FG Launches N50 Commemorative Note by illusion2: 8:23pm On Oct 01, 2010
Not a bad idea. I only hope its not an excuse to bring back the Arabic on our currence.

Does anyone have the picture of the other side?

For those saying Lamido wants his signature on the naira at all costs,you obviously haven't been looking at your naira notes. He gets to sign any notes produced after he took over at the CBN and that includes replacement notes.
