Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by fairheart(m): 8:20pm On Jul 12, 2019
You can PM me. I look forward to it!

MyCaseIsDiffere:

Thank you, so much, I sense so too. It could also be that I had just returned back to Nigeria barely 3 months before applying for a different class of non-immigrants visa. To them, I might appear like wanting to use the F1 for immigration purposes, which is against the law. Japa wey I no japa all these years, na now I go come japa? Who gets the privilege to be a Harvard alumnus and then dishes it for whatever reason in the world?

Anyways, I guess the ball is in my court to convince the VO of my true intent. @fairheart, please can I PM you for better clarification on how to go about my application this time? PS: I don't know how to PM wink @Shawarma, our First Lady, I asked for your input ma, please forget me not.

I have noted all the contributions and will sure put them into good use. God bless your darling hearts! ❤️

I am humbled! God bless you. Nairaland has been a huge source of great connections. I have met many great minds, of which you are one. You are a fighter, and you have won.

My Nairaland experience has been quite an eventful one because I was blessed, for no significant effort of mine, to meet certain people. It actually sounds a bit weird, to say that people I've never met in real life (except here) have made more impact in my adult life than some I know in real life. There are certain things I crave, and few people there are who have it and graciously give. The list is a bit long, but I'll mention just two of them here. It is important to particularly mention these two, because it is the thought of them that makes me feel I might be missing (and losing) somethings if I get too busy to check this thread These two and few others inspire me more than anyone else here, and that is not to say that I do not appreciate the input of others . I certainly do not agree with everything these three people write about, but none of them has ever failed in that peculiar area in which they inspire me. These are people who have a healthy and profound thought pattern. They all know what they want to say, and they know how to say it. Almost always, I'm awed by the advices and transcripts vets

Sharwama; I had my first mock interview with this Queen , I did terribly bad in the mock but not without lessons and counseling at the end, both of which influence my approval in huge measure.
Sharwama thinks too deeply, and lets her fingers take the depth of her mind deeper when she writes. You think you understand what she wrote, but you'll understand her better if you read again, slowly. She makes you laugh, while savouring some hard truths. She is the greatest, in my opinion, when it comes to satire. Sharwama will make you take pain with a smile on your face. How she thrusts a dagger through a person's chest with her words without failing to give onlookers a viewing pleasure, is a lesson I'm still struggling to grasp. Dear queen , may the force always be with you

Fairheart ;
Oga took it from where the queen stopped , mock every 2days , correction upon corrections . @fairheart, Sincerely, English language obscures the awesomeness of some people, the best words only make a mockery of their virtues. This is why it is difficult to write words to properly convey the true feelings of gratitude in my heart for the blessing you have been to me

Suffice it to say that I holds nothing but reverence for you and all that you represent

Thank you for being such a huge blessing. Your love for God is enviable. For all the sunshine and laughter you bring, God bless you.

To you duo, May your kindness always be rewarded in thousands of folds. May your selflessness always return blessings to you in larger measures.

Lagosismyhome, time2win, Pedestals, This is a toast to all of you and others who give freely the richness of your minds. Every intelligent commentary is a product of mental work, including deep thinking, experience and past voracious reading. I learn daily from you all and I'm grateful. You may not understand how scarce and costly a robust thread like this is , until you visit some threads. Visit some threads and read your fellow youth--Nigerians, graduates. Read those threads and encounter the boldness of ignorance and its democratic spread among a large swathe of the youth space. You may return realising you're not entirely useless and foolish as you thought. You may realise that, by attracting brilliant associations, you may yet have substance in that big head of yours. A toast to my people here, young and old, rich and poor, foolish and wise--for in the end really, each group helps the other to find balance. And because we all switch from one group to the other at different times, the joke is on all of us!

I sincerely want to appreciate everyone on this trend for great and invaluable efforts put together to bring up fruitful discussions at all time. I have been a silent follower of this trend and finally, benefit from all your productive comments. May the good Lord bless you guys immensely in return.

My transcript goes thus:

Interview date: July 11, 2019.
Embassy: Lagos
Time: 6:45am
Window: 4, a black American man.

VO: Good Morning

Me: Good morning sir (almost at the same time with him)

VO: Let me have your documents please

Me: All right sir and I passed it

VO: Oh, University of Alabama!

Me: Yes, that's right!

VO: Why a PhD in Applied Mathematics?

Me: Pardon? (Because I wasn't expecting that as a first question)

VO: He repeated the question

Me: I want a PhD in applied mathematics because I'm passionate about the use of pure and applied mathematical concepts to study the evolution, effect, control of infectious diseases and epidemiogy of diseases that follow seasonal trend. I enjoy the use of mathematical models to provide insight into the complex structures of epidemiological and biomedical problems.

VO: Why University of Alabama?

Me: I chose university of Alabama because they have a strong research team in BioMathematics. Their applied mathematics group has excellent and award winning researchers, such as Prof Dang Nguyen who has just received a distinguished award from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. I'm also fascinated by the research of Prof David Halpern-who uses mathematical models to investigate biological and bioengineering process-with whom I have had correspondence.

VO: How did you come about BioMathematics?

Me: During my undergraduate, I took a course on Modeling of infectious diseases and I eventually did my undergraduate research in this area. After which I had a full scholarship to AIMS for my master where I had the opportunity of working under Prof Robert Smith of the University of Ottawa. He later supervised my thesis: Modeling the effect of vaccination on the control of Leptospirosis using impulsive and differential equations. These spur my passion for BioMath and I want to expand my research prowess.

VO: Your GTA, How did you get it?

Me: Pardon? (at this point, I was tired of talking)

VO: Tell me how you got GTA.

Me: The graduate admission committee found my application strong enough and contacted me for the GTA position (I lost composure at this point because this wasn't the response I prepared).

VO: Okay, what is your plan after graduation?

Me: I intend to return to my current place of employment-Landmark University where I currently serve as assistant.....and later pursue a post-doctoral research to broaden my horizons.

VO: Typing for few seconds and then looking at my mouth (as if I have not spoken enough but of course, the flow wasn't like when I was talking about my research)

Me: Yes! (like, that's all)

VO: Continued with the typing

Me: I was just speaking in tongues inside of me with my mouth gesticulating. I was thinking I had floppy responses in the later part of the interview.

VO: Looked up into my eyes and said your visa is approved.

Me: Thank you sir. Thank you for approving my Visa.

VO: No! with reaction. It's my job.

Vo: Reached out for the white paper, pick up your passport after 3-working days at the address indicated on this white paper. And you will need your I-20 at the point of entry.

NB: The VO was patient and he listened to me through out the conversation (lucky me!). I got tired so early because I was passionately dramatizing with my two hands and I expect the interview to end so soon (lazy me!).
However, be prepared for anything, personalise all your responses and be passionate with your delivery.
Congratulations.

Visa approved at the Abuja Consulate.

After my first refusal 2months ago I decided to bounce back on the 9th of July.
That morning I woke up as early as 3am to do my final rehearsals and after that as at 8am I was at the embassy. I was kabashing and praying seriously.

After the necessary checking in it then got to the interview proper. I stood at the queue for a long time only to observe a young man who was dishing the rejection paper any how. I was just praying not to go to that window. But I was unfortunate that this man who has denied 4 persons in my presence was where I was directed for my interview.
At this point I took a deep breath and said if I perish I perish.

With full courage I was so bold to work up to him and the following conversation transpired.

Me: Good morning

Vo: Good morning, I love your attire, you look good

Me: I was so shocked and I bluntly altered thank you sir

Vo: i can see you are going to Pvamu, why are you going to the US

Me: Am going for a Masters in Engineering with concentration in Civil Engineering.

Vo: Have you been to the US before

Me: No sir, I have not had reasons to even travel out of Nigeria before.

Vo: how many schools did you apply aside from Pvamu?

Me: 3 more sir, and I mentioned the names of the others schools

Vo; who will be paying your bills

Me: My aunt will be taking care of that and also my mother will also add an additional assistance.

Vo: what's your father's name

Me: Mr Bleep

Vo; where does your aunt and mum stay

Me: my aunt stays in Bleep, as a matter of fact I stay with her and I shuttle to work from her home and my mum resides in yyy

Vo: where do the both of them work.

Me: I mentioned my aunt's and mum's work place immediately.

Vo; can I have their bank statements, I did that immediately and he flipped through it and said that he will keep this documents for further perusal and if found forged you will be banned from entering US, should I proceed.

Me: yes sir, with all pleasure you can go ahead and clarify the documents sir.

Vo: OK congratulations on your visa, but you will be placed on AP for sometime, should I still go ahead with checking this documents, I know you understand what it means to be banned

Me: this time I was firm in my response and said yes

He immediately handed the white paper to me and a yellow paper indicating that am place on Administrative processing and I left happily.

Just this morning my status has changed online from AP to ISSUED

please my people for me I feel an interview at the embassy is not even by how you prepare or your answers, but it is all by GOD'S GRACE and nothing else. We must have to pray that God should favour us anytime we are appearing there.
If you had read well I wasn't even asked all those technical question they normally ask. It was just smooth and easy.

I give God all the glory
Congratulations to you.

Hello.. Try to finish well. Plan to do GRE and Toefl and excel in them. Start looking for schools that meet your profile and have your research or career area. Learn how to write brilliant statement of purpose. Mail graduate coordinators of any program you want to apply to for necessary information. There is fall term which starts in Aug and spring term which starts in Jan. Fall term has more funding so you can target that. In this journey, google is your best friend wink and nairaland is there too.
All the best.

Thank you ma'am, I appreciate. I intend to write GRE and TOEFL after my final exams. Please how do I find schools in the USA, is there a website or something?
Thank you.

Hello guys, I was motivated to search for thread like this because a friend left this country recently on full scholarship, I was like wow. Please guys I need all the mentorship I can get. Currently I am in my finals studying Civil Engineering, I am likely to graduate with something slightly above 3.8/5. Please where should I start from, I mean what preparations can I make towards getting a scholarship (fully funded o). Please I need answers. Thank you all.
Try to finish well in your last semester.

Just type "schools in the US offering whatever your course is" you will find massive information. And you start clicking each school website.
