obaseki gave him the respect unlike one governor that don't respect the Emir.
The state governor has the constitutional power to hire or fire any king. And just so you know, Ooni of Ife is not in the class of Oba of Benin.

A slave will always be a slave no matter his billions
People are subjects, not slaves. Freeborn people were never regarded as slaves. Only as servants of the Oba. In that they carry out Oba;'s instructions. That included the dukes, chiefs/nobles and all citizens. Only war captives, descendants of captives and people sent from other inferior kings as tribute or gifts back in the day were slaves. But they still were not treated like those in the Americas during trans-Atlantic slave trade. Some females slaves, especially the very pretty/endowed ones even married into the top notch of the society.

Some slaves excelled in craft, warfare and other endeavours to become famous or even heroes and some were ennobled.

But telling them to keep traditions and expunge the juju is like telling Buhari to go climb mountain Everest with bathroom slippers, African monarchs cannot do without jazz, they believe and practice it, but my questions to them is why not use the jazz to stop bokoharam, poverty, robbers, kidnapping, unemployment, and all manner of rubbish that has held the African continent on the floor, even with all the jazz, Africa is still backward grin
Valid question.

Dude is actually a billionaire tho...the last check by those in the know claims he’s even richer that Igbinadion and probably the richest man in the state:

When his daughter got married to a prince in Warri it was rumored that the bride price was in oil wells grin

I'm not making specific reference ti this man

I'm talking in general
how these bloggers abuse the word billionaire

even someone with a nice house and three cars is now a billionaire in Nigeria

poverty has bleached the sense of many in Nigeria

No, Nigerian Billionaire just like Icelandic Billionaires, French Billionaire, Russian Billionaire and all that; have their assets measured in British pounds.
Reason Dangote and Alakija are called billionaires. It is an insult to call Dangote a billionaire and call Emoney a billionaire.
The olny way to do what you suggest is to use a nigerian local language (Onye Nderi Naira in Igbo for example meaning a millionaire in Naira Ogu Nderi Naora meaning a billionaire in Naira) NOT English Billions.
Even Linda Ikeji and Seun are dubbed Billionaires. Na wa.

It's not British pounds...but the US dollars

the dollar is the standard currency for measuring wealth

You won't see any legit media source measure someone's wealth with British pounds...you can check forbes list

These men has billions but what has Captian Hosa really done for Benin City.

He own companies that have employed lots of people.
He owns the first greenhouse farm in Benin which produces food during off-season...
He didn't make money from politics or political appointments, but from his career as a pilot for several decades who invested his resources very well to makes fortunes.

Continue to massage your nonexistent ego! If any OBA crosses his line against the government, it's not even the state government that will dethrone him but a local government chairman will see to it. As long as an Oba respects himself and stays within the bounds of his constitutional limits, he may be regarded as GOD, otherwise, You can try the government and see who holds the real power.

I think anytime someone types billionaire, Nairaland should automatically change it to Millionaire or multimillionaire.
A billionaire is someone who has a billion british pounds and above in assets.
Even Emoney is brandished about as a billionaire.
Millions, billions and trillions are English words and when you say someone is a billionaire then his net assets must be in billion pounds.
So with this billionaire logic, If I migrate to Zimbabwe or Ghana I should be called a billionaire then

Maybe Zimbabwe but definitely not Ghana. 1 Cedis is about 66 Naira.
