Can Your 3 Years Old Kid Write 1-10 by Metooreal: 3:42pm On Jun 12, 2019
Hi house, please help me.

My kids are 3 years old in Nursery 1. Their school rule for promotion to nursery 2 is any pupil in Nursery must be able to write 1-10.

They count 1 - 50 well. I went for their review last term and my daughter happens to be the best in class.

But writing is the issue. They can only write 1, 2, 3 n 4. One can write 7.

They are serious about this. Now i have been called for a meeting again. I'm worried that the school is so touch on promoting a 3 year old kid. My kids are really sharp, they sing a to z, assign letters to veggies and even know shapes and colours.

Just the aspect of writing and am now worried.

Mothers i need your opinions please. I don't even have time to compare my friends kids with mine or even ask cos they might not even tell you the truth.

Dominique, please i need urgent help cos i might be in their school tomorrow. Those guys are crazy i think.

Please withdraw your kids from that school. A 3 year old is still a toddler and needs play session to master their fine motor skills not the infuriating academic hurdles you just listed out. Also make sure you are dealing with early childhood specialist teachers not the usual crops of graduates without teaching licenses.

you people should stop putting all this rubbish pressure on little kids for heaven sake!

allow them to grow to their pace haba!

3 years and u r already allowing these useless schools that knows nothing about child psychology to put undue pressure on them.

this is one of the reasons why kids grow up un-smart bc they only project what they are forced to learn instead using their natural sense of reasoning which the education system has forced them to discard.

you the parent, at what age where u able to count 1 to 10 talk less of writing it down!

Thanks for your responses. I just weak, I even spanked one for asking me to put on tv instead of concentrating on mastering writing 4.

God please forgive me, i will also hug them and ask her to forgive me now.

My sister who is a teacher always commend them, i just wonder why this guys feel the writing is most important.

I already told my hubby before now i want them out of that school cos of the pressure on kids. But he said no that the pressure is okay but i hate to hear my kids aren't doing well.

I went for their review session last term and my girl bit all other kids hands down in terms of counting and identifying 1 to 20. I was even amazaed myself. Habaaa!!!!

My son is 3yrs and 4months. He cannot write 1-10 on his own but if I write 1-1000 for him to rewrite, he will write it perfectly not knowing what it is. He knows how to rewrite but not perfect in counting yet. He knows how to count 1 to 100 and A to Z. With extra lessons i give him, he is the best in his class. Kindly give him extra lessons too. it will help a lot

They rewrite perfectly, count 1 to 50 perfectly without assistance. What the school insist on is writing it on their own from 1 to 10. They write 1 to 4 for now.

If they insist they must write 1 to 10 before they can be promoted i will withdraw them and ask for a refund of their end of the year fees.

I don't know who n who will be promoted in their class then.

I think it is rather to hasty for your child to be promoted. Don't rush him. Allow him to learn what he is capable of learning for his age. Besides, a three year old child is supposed to be in KG1 and not KG2.

please did you say your child of 3yrs is in nursery one? haaaa?!? I guess you mean KG1. Nursery one is for 4 or 5yrs.

I have 2 sons and they are unique in their own ways, my first son at 3 couldn’t write 2-10 on his own but he was perfect with anything oral while my second son is 3 now and he can write 1-300 on his own very good with problems and all but he’s terrible with anything oral. Your kids are unique do not let any school pressure you. I wish you all the best

I think different schools have the names for pre-school sessions. Some call it KG and some Nursery. But I know they have creche, nur1, nur 2, reception before entering into primary 1. Same for those who name their pre-school sessions as creche, kg1, kg2, reception then primary 1...

Nursery 1 is not for 4 or 5 years, when will the child leave pre-school if that is it?

Thank you for this.

I really appreciate this.

When I even hold their hands to write, they write it before I even move their hands with theirs. it's just them being on their own and writing it down. I will sleep well tonight at least because I have been worried about the school decision.

Madam,
Please don't allow anyone and EVEN YOURSELF put pressure on those children. Let them remain in that Nursery One Class. I won't lie to you. There will be much more pressure on them if you allow them to be promoted to Nursery 2.
Under the right circumstances, a child should spend at least 4 years in the nursery foundation and should be 5 when in Primary/Basic/Year/Grade 1 (whatever is used in the school).
I rushed my son to start school from Reception 2 just because he could count and identify 1-10 and being a teacher, I felt it was a waste of time for him to do Reception 1. Now he's in Year 3 and I see him struggle a bit, especially in his Mathematics.
Take it from me (I'm a certified teacher and into the system), please leave those babies to do the class again. I guess that's what the school wants to discuss with you. They would be right if they do.

@ Metooreal,
I believe every child is unique in a special way. Study Your kids and educate each in their own ways.
My child is 4yrs in nursery 2...knows how to write 1-100 perfectly and learning 100- 200.reads novels (children's novels) and practicing advanced maths and english .
Do U think it was taught in her school or by her teacher? Hell no.
Her teacher is still struggling to get the students to write 1-50 since beginning of third term.
U see My daughter started creche at the age of 2yrs where her creche mates was 11months -1yr +...But she was the only student that doesn't talk in class....withing 3 months she started school I had to advice myself.
You see Madam only a mother can be the best teacher for her children ,they are Your future and no school or teacher can impact more knowledge than a mother can. This are the formular I devised.
1) Go back to basic ..the way I was taught in my formative years I went to my mum's library and took my nursery school books and used that method for my Child when she encounters challenges in school.

2) At day time I become that working class woman but once I am home I stoop low to teach my child every evening except she is too tired ...I chat with her over topics that was learnt for the day and pretend I haven't heard such amazing topic then she becomes excited to teach me .

3) I blocked all cartoon network on dstv except only on saturdays (I learnt that from nairaland ).

4) Saturdays and Sundays evening are for reviews of all her school homeworks .

5) I take mental notes of all homeworks and draft mine when am less busy at work for Our daily private lessons.

6) Dont give them pressures during exams or be hard on them
kids learn by fun and games with parents where U Introduce topics to them (My hubby introduce me to the use of bottle tops and stones to teach her greater than and lesser than in maths).

7) Postive reinforcement plays a vital role ..Cheer them up and praise them on how brilliant they were able to accomplish what they do .

cool build a mini library for Your kids with lots of exercise books for their home use ..Give them little tasks e.g 1-20 and make sure each page is filled with a particular number ..just have fun teaching them when You are tired give them the book and push them to their Dad to coach them while You grade the score...

9) Never compare Your kids to any other children..Give them Your time and attention...

Finally, I learnt a priceless asset I can give my kids are not wealth or investments (although they matter) but knowledge and wisdom acquired through education...

To the doubting Thomas that will debunk my daughter's age and her class with calculator grin she was double promoted in creche
To Nusery 2 (I did home lessons with nursery 1 curriculum while she was in creche) ....She has been offered another double promotion now to primary 1 which her Dad declined too that she has to go to nursery 3 .

Above all before we begin our daily private lessons I taught her to say a short prayer on her books.

Wow, I once taught geniuses then . I know children of that age who can write 1-1000, A-Z , three letter words, I also started taking them four letter words and they were doing just fine before I left.

To the Op, @ 3yrs , your kids should be in KG 1 or 2 not Nursery, no use rushing them unnecessarily.

Naaa, these kids at 3 count 1 tp 50 perfectly. Identifies colours, shapes, all of those. Assign letters to objects. They are the best in the class. Of they won't be promoted, it's as good as not promoting any child in the class. They write 1 to 4 very well. Reception is after they have attended nursery 2, reception is before primary one. Kids in their school read well before entrying to primary one.

I actually jumped into concluding it's the writing 1 to 10 the school wanted to see us for but it was for us tp discuss other things about them.

We have discussed and they meet all the requirement for promotion.

Thanks all for your responses.

I'm in Nigeria . . I graduated at 21 (5 year course), and got my job at 22 and the only experience I got from all that rush is that I grew up too fast.

I don't want that for my kids. I want them to enjoy their infancy and childhood, and get the best they can from life.

When I moved to a new state and registered them in a school, they won't put my second child in Pre-k, and she was just 2 then. They said the she should be in Nursery 1. For one year I watched my baby struggle through something she has no business struggling with. At the end of the year I changed her to a school with saner age restrictions for their classes, and that meant she had to repeat Nursery 1 which was fine by me.

Some parents are anxious to rush their kids through school, and most private schools respond to their demand. But when you search further you will find those one who take the right stand on age restrictions. Those are the true educationists.

Madame, please leave the baby to be baby,he will write at his own pace, sometimes I wonder why a parent will employ a home lesson teacher for a child not up to 7years.
