I recently started a business about two weeks ago and because of my schedule, i hired someone to manage it for me. Can't be at two places at once. So, I hired a lanky teenager that radiates humility and zeal for the job and since the business started, I have not been hitting the desired target. I was getting frustrated already but i kept consoling myself that maybe the word has not yet gone around about the business.

So yesterday, i decided to spend a whole day at the business and lo and behold, I made a lot of money that day. Obviously, the boy was eating my money. I have no problems with my staff taking money out for lunch but this guy was slashing my money by half. Imagine the greed! And I pay him above minimum wage and told him to take Sundays off. But the guy comes to work on Sundays and works till late. AT first, I was happy with his work ethic but now, i realize that this guy is working for his own half.

And he swore with his life that he's not eating my money. The next course of action is to fire him but how can i prevent this embezzlement from going on with the next guy I hire? The nature of business is a game lounge. I'll be grateful for any advice I can get here.

I will advice you let him go and get a new girl, girls are more honest in this kind of job(strickly warn her you have zero telorance for free games to customers )
But if you can't get a girl,.. just get a record book...stay there with him for a week and record all sales within that period let him do all the recording himself..,after that let him continue recording sales with that same book.it works likje magic he will always submit above the lowest sales in that record book.unless if he actually did not mnake much sales that day,

That was in the past o. Girls are getting even more crafty than the guys nowadays. Did you not see a topic of a lady stealing large sums of money from the office where she was doing IT? Don't be fooled, even the meek, pious looking ones are capable of robbing you dry if care is not taken.

My brother had same issues with his game cafe in PH. He always made 3k max daily while the guys there buy roasted fish and beer in plain sight after they had closed for the day.
Till he put up a CCTV at the payment points and inside to view the console....on the first day of installation sales jumped to 11k and even 21k within same week.
The guys resigned on their own and new people were employed. Such is the risk of trust ...they will just exploit your blind spot.
Go for a CCTV....the benefits is higher than the installation budget.

But Nigerians can be wicked sha
if the business is making 11k -15k sales

if you must pilfer, at most let it be that kind 2k5 or 3k max

But pilfering 8k
and giving the owners just 3k is pure wickedness and evil.
.and they don't use the money 4 better thing

Set a target for him that you know he'll not meet, but be careful and always come around every now and then to check with him to let him know you've got your eyes on him then put a sales management system or ticketing system that records sales and cameras around the premises that stuff scares the hell out of them

Get a small business ERP solution/software with that you can keep track on Income and expenses.
Also Install CCTV

@op, what console are you using? You may have to do some research. A lot of modern systems log everything and can be configured to report this. Ie this game was played for x hours today. With this information you can match bills paid to time played.

Anyone you employ must have a guarantor. He must also sign a document/undertaking. As others have said, deploy cctv. Plenty fake but some working. If you can afford it, let some be remote so you can review from outside the location.

I am sorry, but Nigerians are just not it. I work in the downstream industry and everyday I hear heartbreaking stories of so called pastor type workers stealing from their employers.
