This is to inform the general public that the Agemo masquarades will be embarking on their annual journey on 5th July,2019 to Imosan-Ijebu from their respective routes in some towns in Ijebu axis of Ogun State.

It is also forbidden for women or ladies to sight any of these Agemo masquarades while embarking on this journey on Friday 5th July,2019 from their respective routes to their final destination at Imosan-Ijebu.

The routes are but not limited to the followings:

Epe/Ijebu Ode route.

Isiwo/Ijebu Ode route.

Ijebu Imusin/Ijebu Ode route.
Atan/Luba/Ijebu Ode route

Ago-Iwoye/Ijebu Ode route

Odogbolu/Ijebu Ode route etc etc.

Therefore, women/ladies are seriously advised and warned to restrict their movement from 12noon upward on these routes on the date stated above to avoid any calamity.

May we not become sacrificial lamb due to our non-challant attitude (Amen).

When Harvey Weistein stories came out, lots of people in the US and all over the World came out to decry the attitude and that led to the "me too" movement. Does that mean there weren't rape cases happening to lesser known figures in the country before those came out?


Every rape case needs to be treated on a case by case basis. It also takes a landmark case to bring to light issues people have had or topics we always shy away from. Maybe due to the popularity of her case, something drastic would be done or new laws would be drafted to help the general society.

More reason why more people need to start talking about it. If indeed he cares about other lesser known cases of rape, he wouldn't come out to say the trash he just spewed out.

For you to have social change, whatever you want to push forward must be at the consicousness of the society. It must be something lots of people are discussing. We have a culture were people are told to keep shut and enjoy the pains and someone took courage not withstanding her position to come out and all you dumb people do is villiify her for speaking her own truth when we know how prevalent rape cases are in the society?

Rape is not something you want to sound political correct on please.

Rape and sexual assaults and harassment has always been RAMPANT in Nigeria, but has existed largely below the realm of prominent public discourse. That the story of a ‘celebrity’ (whatever that means in Nigeria) accords the subject matter the visibility and impetus needed to put it squarely in public spotlight is an important factor. Also important is the fact that there are some state governments (such as Lagos) that have created specialized units and courts to prosecute and adjudicate these matters (and even the Police now have sex crime officers). Meanwhile, people aggrieved at folks protesting against celebrity rape (alleged) should organize their own for matters they care about!

On the contrary, it ELEVATES the ENTIRE subject matter (look at all the ordinary folk sharing similar stories since)...
Even here on NL, rape stories are always on the front page but more in gossipy terms, and this is one of the few times it’s examined in depth.

The one characteristic about Nigerians/Africans appear to be a reluctance to frontally (even publicly) confront unpleasant issues and TRUTHS...
For better or for worse, when high-visibility persons are involved, it compels/forces us to extensively/publicly examine the good, bad and ugly!

As for the purported “jungle justice”, suffice it to note we do a gross INJUSTICE to real victims when we sweep these matters under the rug...

The annual Agemo Festival in Ijebuland will commence as all the Oloja Agemos would approach Ijebu Ode township on Friday 5th July 2017, between the time of 4pm till night, after which they will continue their journey to Imosan where they will all assemble for their annual pilgrimage.
Their routes includes and not limited to Epe/Oke-Owa road, Isiwo route, Odogbolu enroute Lagos/Benin Express way, Ijebu Imusin/Ilese Army Barracks route, Omu/Ala/Egbe/Ejinrin route etc.
A statement from the Palace of Oba Awujale the paramount ruler of Ijebuland indicates that the Agemos will commence their annual sacrifice with the traditional dance at Imosan on Saturday 6th July 2019.
They will also return back to Ijebu Ode township on Sunday 7th July 2019, while Olumoro will return on Monday 8th July 2019 respectively.
The statement also added that Onire will perform the traditional sacrifice for Oba Awujale of Ijebuland on 12th July 2019 at Ojofa Itoro in Ijebu Ode township, while other Agemo Masquarades will perform their traditional dance at the yard at Isasa Porogun in Ijebu Ode township also on that same day.
Oba Awujale of Ijebuland therefore advised all women and ladies to "keep-off" from the routes and sighting of Agemos as it is being practised in Ijebu tradition and customs.
