Re: Does Small Generator Damage Your Phone's Battery? by Enosa1(m): 11:26am On Jul 06, 2019 |
The reason for that is because of the fluctuating current from the generator especially when it has not been serviced for long. Also, some of these modern tiger gen doesn't produce pure sine wave and that can damage the charger, sometimes it can even affect the phone/laptop. Consider installing solar system or simple inverter and battery. 1 Like |

This is the most reasonable post I've seen on niaraland in a while so I had to log back in to comment, (should've commented last night sha) AVR (Automatic voltage regulator) helps keep the voltage at 220v or around that level no matter the speed of the generator engine.. Its also used in stabilizers Small gen uses one small capacitor only and lack AVR Big Gens and even those smallest elepaq yellow standard Gens (the cousins of I pass my neighbor that are similar to medium Gens in look) use both small AVRs and bigger capacitors (those white big ones) Your phcn aka NEPA uses large AVR grids at transformers powerline stops to help keep voltage at 220v which sometimes fails when more than needed buildings (load) connect to a single transformer stop which leads to low voltage and sometimes spoils the transformer or the AVR equipment In conclusion I pass my neighbor gen is not good for use at all, because of lack of AVR in the small gen nothing regulates the voltage and it's fluctuations can be unpredictable which could lead to damage of your electronics I end it here 4 Likes |

OP seems to have made up his mind that small generator doesn't affect phone nor battery with the responses he has be giving to comments, so why bringing this forth? The fact is small battery shorten battery's life span with its fluntation in power supply. I am a living testimony. My infinix got damaged and couldn't served long due to regular charge from 'I better pass my neighbor generator' |

uncleck:The standard measurement is in Kva or KW And its "Watts" not "Wats" Electric current is measured in "Amperes " while the voltage across is measured in "Volts" Finally, about no9....you cannot use an input charger of 110v in a 220v socket outlet without a step up transformer, it will blow the charger |

GraGra247:Oga stop displaying and preaching ignorance, which phone engineers? The ones who never saw the four walls of any electrical engineering classroom? Size of generator will not affect your battery except your phone or laptop charger or the phone is faulty. AC power from mains supply socket at 220v gets into the charger, no matter how much harmonics accompanying the fundamental frequency, the stepdown transformer converts it down to either 12v or less which is still AC power, the diodes which may be configured in half bridge or full bridge will convert it to DC but this DC still fluctuates because diodes allow electricity flow only in one direction, your charger will now use capacitors and sometimes inductors but they are obsolete now to filter the fluctuating DC, the capacitors filter the DC by charging at one cycle when the diode is conducting and discharging at the point when the diode ain't conducting thereby ensuring the DC voltage and current has definite or clipped amplitude. This good DC electricity is now passed through a regulator of 5v that produces pure DC for your phone to charge. This is how it happens even if you use an inverter that produces square wave. Generator has got noting to do with your battery. Your battery will get bad when you are using it while charging it because of heat and you shaking the cord input to the charging port that Sparks. Be guided. 2 Likes 1 Share |

lordskid:What do you mean by irregular flow of current? Is AC current suppose to be steady? Tiger or small generator has noting to do with your battery. Google how the phone charger works and read it up so as to be well informed and stop spreading ignorance. |

1000angstroms: Mr know it all, please how do you explain the countless incidents of people that got their batteries, chargers and devices damaged by the singular use of tiger generators. Since everyone else is ignorant and you are not, please kindly show us. While at it also prove to us that there is no difference between pure sine wave and modified sine wave. Even highly advanced scientists are humble enough to admit that sometimes they get it wrong. |

You are very wrong in your assessment. The problem with 'I better pass my neighbour' is purely this. The switch function that is absent. Any generator that hasn't got a switch button or a faulty switch button is liable to cause untold damage. Be it blown bulbs, blown batteries or faulty charging pins, etc. When you start a generator, the switch button is supposed to be off. The generator should only be switched on to supply current after 30secs to 3mins depending on the age of the generator and capacity. IBPMN doesn't have a switch button. As soon as you start it, it starts supplying current. In all generators, it's written starting rate which is higher in value and the running rate. Appliances are not meant to be on when this starting rate kicks in. When the generator normalises to the running rate that's when the switch button should be turned on. Second, Generators are meant to be run on 50% of their capacity for longevity. Say you buy a 2.5KVA generator, then the actual load should be 1.25KVA. If I was to use a 2.5KVA gen with a 1.1KW freezer, then I'll turn off all other appliances, turn on the freezer and after 2-4mins(depending on the freezer) turn on other lower loads. Mind you,1.1KW freezer only leaves you with 200W of energy for other appliances. Third, If you must use a IBPMN then have a switch button between the gen and the load. So the procedure will be to take out heavy loads, Installed Switch button off->Start Gen->Wait for a min->Switch on installed switch. |

GraGra247:how can I admit that am wrong when am not, how many of them have you witnessed that got damaged by tiger generator? When you don't use the manufacturers prescribed charger to charge your phone and still want your battery to survive? When you don't service your generator that it gives your charger a voltage higher than it can accept and that makes the inrush current too high causing too much heat for your battery to deteriorate or charging your phone and using it at same time that heats up your phone, phone battery and heat are sworn enermies and that is the major culprit and not the generator, except you have a substandard phone that has a substandard battery so magic is bound to happen. Am authoritatively speaking from electrical engineering theory that your generator has got nothing to do with your battery based on the context of size as you lots hypothesize, it is sheer ignorance to make such claims period, it is same synchronous machine used as alternator in kainji dam to produce electricity that is used in tiger generators, so I don't know how their electricity will differ. |

femi4:He is correct, most phone chargers accept 100 - 220 or 240 v AC to give output of 5V 1A 2A DC. Meaning your phone will still charge at 110 v as the transformers they have are auto transformer resembling the olden days multiple tapped transformers |

Re: Does Small Generator Damage Your Phone's Battery? by 1000angstroms(m): 2:13pm On Jul 06, 2019 |
GraGra247:Did you just decide to ignore one of my reasons of most Nigerians that have poor maintenance culture, if you don't maintain your generator, it will damage your devices and like I said, if your generator is faulty, it might supply an unacceptable voltage to your charger, sometimes the transformers and diodes will survive but filtering capacitors will burn out meaning your phone is getting an unfiltered dc current, in this case your battery and phone will suffer but most recent modern phones do have smart circuits to detect this failure in the charger and will cut off charging to save your phone. |

[s]CONCLUSION It does not mater the size of your generator, what matters is the output voltage and the stability. A PHCN light of 110V will charge a phone slower than a small generator that produces 200V all things being equal.[/s] bro pleae go and hold naked wire of a 200v tiger gen and hold naked wire of 110 phcn then come and tell me the difference |

Please can someone here in the house help me out. I have LEAGOO T5 WITH THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS : RAM 4GB. ROM 64GB. BATTERY CAPACITY : 3000mAh and it's inbuilt. My problem with this, is that the battery doesn't last up 5 hours. Will it be safe to replace the battery with 5000mAh battery of techno or gionee? I don't need expert advice from fellow Nairalanders. My WhatsApp number is 07052270538. Thanks in advance for anticipating advice. |
