FG, govs seek recruitment of corps members, N’Power cadets for community policing

The Federal Government and the Nigeria Governors ’ Forum have proposed to recruit National Youth Service Corps members and graduates of the N ’ Power Programme to beef up the manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force .
The corps members and N ’ Power cadets are to make up for the inadequacy of the ongoing recruitment of 10 , 000 additional hands by the police .
They will help primarily in boosting community policing .
The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi , disclosed this in Abuja on Friday after he held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa .
Fayemi stated that issue topped the agenda of the meeting of the Security Sub - Committee of the National Economic Council headed by him earlier in the week.
He said the governors , in particular , felt that the 10 , 000 men being recruited by the police would be inadequate in addressing the country’ s current security challenges , hence the urgency to seek other options .

He spoke further , “ This was a meeting that had in its membership the governors from the six zones , the Inspector - General of Police , Chief of Defence Staff and the National Security Adviser.
“ It was the outcome of the last NEC meeting , which focused exclusively on security . That committee has just met a couple of days ago and I was asked to brief both the Vice- President , who chairs the NEC and to brief the President as well on the aspect of the work of the sub - committee of NEC that will require the Commander - in -Chief’ s support.
“ Namely, the organisation of the community policing arrangement that the IGP has announced publicly as his own way of effective response to security challenges across the board.
“ The coordination between governors and security chiefs within the six zones and then recruitment into the law enforcement agencies . As you may be aware, certain recruitments are going on now particularly with regards to the police . But , we feel in our humble opinion that 10 , 000 men and women are not enough to add to the police in tackling the dearth of security agents in the country.
“ That we will have to figure out a way to increase that number either out of the N ’ Power cadets, who are coming to the end of their service year , having spent two years , or youth service corps members or any of the other institution that will enable us to boost the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force . ”

The Fulani militia are better armed, than the security forces, they should be recruited to complement the efforts of the security agencies. Government will spend a lot less in logistics to arm them, since they are already armed. Recruit and post most of them to the BETTER SOUTH and insecurity will be a thing of the past. .

No! This is not right. Nigeria needs competent and well trained personnel to ensure adequate security.

It's a good decision cos there is no job in the country which is the reason many people opt for police job and the love for the work is not there thats why the Nigeria police is not doing well. So same thing may continue undecided

The people to be recruited must have passion for the job else, it's just a waste of time like some of the police officers we have now . But people will take up the job for feeding sake not because they want to...

They want to start wasting innocent lives. If the police are short of manpower, let the FG draft vigilante, Peace corps and other paramilitary seeking approval into the police force for this purpose. At least, those guys already have the experience.

So they can come and owe them salaries? Those governors are a bunch of jokers. The number of workers in each state they have are not enough? Governors have not been able to pay those workers they have before salaries, virtually all states in Nigeria owe salaries and you want to employ more you won't be able to pay salaries right? Jokers

That would be seeding the desperate and unemployed against the temporary underemployed. Definitely the Corpers and N power cadets will not want to risk their lives all they want is daily bread and comfortable life while the desperate unemployed have lost hope and is willing to die and to kill to achieve success and comfort.

They are trying to avoid state police. We need state police. Leave innocent children alone. Don't kill Innocent corpers in the name of community police. You should think of creating jobs for them in their various fields and not community policing.
