mvem: why wont international analyst praise the move, they ve seen a market that they can easily dump their goods without any pakam, free market and trade have never benefitted nigeria right from the time of the structural adjustment program to the time of Washington and post Washington consensus and to this Afcta trash how I wish political economy history was taught in secondary school 2 Likes |

daevey: Thank you. Today, my girlfriend who loves to go romaging for bargain in Sunday market in Shoreditch for her online business, returned with a bag full of wellmade slippers, about twenty of them, for £1. One frigging pound. And also she returned with jarkets and skirts, all really well made stuff, all ranging in price from £1 to £3s. These stuff were made in Greece, Albania, and so on. People in London generally will not touch them. This stuff full market., few buy. The new single African market will be the ideal place to dump them. This in addition to Asian cheap items. So, what market abroad does Nigeria hope to trade and sell with? At best Nigerian manufactured stuff will be trapped to Africa. Africa that want to sell to Nigeria because they don't have buying power. Hope for earning foreign currency lays only in agricultural stuff and our own unique ethnic Nigerian brands. And for that, we don't need Africa, in any case. |

Arelyn: The deal will not add to our export value; what we export is mostly crude and agric products which hardly lacks market as crude is regulated by OPEC and Agric products will always find a market. Our indegenous market is hardly striving, much more when competition with foreign goods becomes rife. 1 Like |

I'm afraid economics wasn't the motivating factor for signing up, I suspect Nigeria leadership is eyeing the sociopolitical benefits, whatever they believe it ( in terms of shaking up the ethnic dynamics) to be accrued in the next phases of the Union, which is free movement of people. 1 Like |

uzohrome: Oga, exclusion of border taxes should not be seen as an advantage at all. Border tax, in the form of ETLS is as little as 0.5% - 1.5% of FOB charges. It's like a waiver to hell! I don't think you understand fully the implications of this agreement. |

SamuelLoch: I belive wah he is saying in a nutshell is that there is no need removing or putting tariff as the other guy above argued caused the tariff is as low as not even being in existence. so exclusion of tariff doesnt really count 1 Like |
