Buhari’s Education Policy Anti-masses, Says ASUU by Ify05: 5:01am On Jul 08, 2019
The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Sunday described the President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy on education as anti-masses.

It accused the All Progressives Congress government of a deliberate plan to starve public education with funds in order to deny Nigerian youths the right to know and challenge misrule.

In a release in Ibadan on Sunday and signed by the Chairman, University of Ibadan Chapter of the union, Prof. Deji Omole, ASUU lamented that the sacrifices of understaffed and underpaid Nigerian academia would be futile if President Buhari did not increase funding for education.

Omole cited the University of Ibadan as an example of an institution presently groaning due to paucity of funds, insufficient staff, decayed infrastructure and bad laboratories.

According to the ASUU chief, education was not the priority of the Buhari government.

Omole claimed that due to paucity of funds, over 500,000 Nigerian children who desire public university education were rejected annually due to decayed infrastructure and reduced manpower.

Omole said unless urgent steps were taken to cater to the needs of children of the Nigerian masses, many of them would fight back with crime.

“The APC government’s failure to fund education is a design to kill public universities. University of Ibadan is groaning terribly due to paucity of funds.

“Retired academics cannot be replaced because government deliberately refused to make budgetary provision for growth and development.

“This crisis has led to the staff on ground being overworked leading to early deaths of many of our colleagues.

“Education is not the priority of this government. Due to paucity of funds, many universities including University of Ibadan, the nation’s premier university, cannot admit many qualified candidates into the universities.

“This is dangerous to the society as the rejected qualified and brilliant candidates may eventually take to crimes because the country has rejected them. The policy is not only wicked but criminal,” ASUU lamented.

Are you people not part of those who championed a man without certificate to resuscitate the education system? Mumu ASUU. How do you expect a man to give what he doesn't have? How can he give, what he cannot appreciate? A man that is a product of almajiri system. He will soon turn the universities to almajiri schools.

Someone that was brought up to rear cattle and no certificate whatsoever, do you expect him to like education? Of course, his main aim would be to better the lives of herdsmen and cattle.

I was in UI during the build-up to 2015 election and knew how crazy many of them were about Buhari. I still know some of them that can lay down their lives for the bubu up till now. People with "PhDs" clamoring to have a man who couldn't show a school certificate to be their president. What an irony..

..and he wants to pull 100 million people out of poverty in 10 years?

How do you expect someone who never went to a university to understand all this.

Left to him he will make all University RUGA settlements...lifting 100 million cows out of hunger

That is how low Nigeria has sunk! Men have lost their worth. The university system is a shadow of itself. The worst of it all is a professor of constitutional law being party to Buharis disregard for the rule of law. grin grin grin

Don't take this greedy ASUU serious, when they give them money they know how to squander it, go to our University and carry out the project evaluation you will surprised if federal government has ever spend anything on education due to the way they mismanage the little one they get. When they give them earn allowance lecturers will be claiming over eighty percent and live less than twenty percent for others. To show their greediness shame is the way they abandoned their strike and purse their personal inec adhoc staff where they get token.

The Nigerian economy is thinly strenghtened due to politicians' homogous salary. Lets scrap the presidential and adopt parliametary system to free money for social amenities.

The thing is, our universities need 3 trillion naira in extra funding every 2 years according to the ASUU FG 2009 agreements

Problem is, our government does not have that money.

The previous administration did not have that money either.

So, either we increase fees or take another big phat loan

This seems to be a propaganda to me but buhari should see the fact in it and sit up. No leader can be successful without turning to criticism as no nation will grow without compassionate leader.

Quite sad and painful. Our education system doesn't open up people's minds at all. It seems it only promotes sentiments and makes people more irrational.

With oil revenues below what we need it since 2014 and with hefty debts incurred, plus the fact that we are spending billions on subsidies that could be used for the education system, I'm not surprised we don't have the money.

GEJ built a lot of stuff. He benefited from oil being at 100 dollars and above till 2014. Bubu, for all his faults, met oil below 75 and dropping

Modified

GEJ also told ASUU in 2013 that 3 trillion over 2 years in extra funding for universities was not possible. Which was the truth.

He offered ASUU 1.trillion over 5 years. ASUU took the deal.

Add the fact that fees increases are opposed by the masses, and you see the problem
