The Oodua People’s Congress, OPC (Reformed), has joined numerous others in the South-West to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of utmost priority, find immediate and permanent solution to the incessant harassment, kidnapping and killing of the people of the region by Fulani herdsmen who, it said, had penetrated the geopolitical zone.

The president of the group, Ambassador Dare Adesope, made the call at a news conference in Lagos, on Thursday.

According to Adesope, who was represented by the Lagos State coordinator of the group and its secretary-general, Messrs Samson Balogun and Sufian Ogundimu, it is disturbing that Fulani herdsmen have invaded Yorubaland, perpetrating all forms of evil, including kidnapping and killing of our people, especially in Osun, Oyo, Ekiti and Ondo states, such that people, most of whom are farmers, are now living in fear.

“Yorubaland is known as a peaceful place for every law-abiding Nigerian, where foreigners enjoy to live and do business.

“We love and accommodate people, irrespective of tribe, but not those whose mission is to steal, to kill and to destroy our people and resources. We can never tolerate that,” he said.

Adesope said it was not that Youruba people were cowards for appealing for peace to reign as the inability of the Federal Government to stop the excesses of herders could necessitate the region adopting the self-defence of its people and property.

He, however, urged traditional rulers in the region and people in the corridors of power and politicians to prioritise the safety of lives and property of the people of the region over personal and political ambitions.

“Politicians should put aside, for now, their political ambitions towards the 2023 general elections, while the obas should also not wait until their palaces are invaded by herdsmen before they will do something concrete to stop the attacks,” he stressed.

I watched another interview by one Christian Yoruba from Ekiti, he said that Muslim Yorubas are great threat to Yoruba Nation.

Their alliance to fulanis makes Yoruba nation vulnerable
God forbid if there is a war today and the whole South were to unite against the Fulanis, the Muslim elements among them will sell us out.

Charleys:
it is incumbent on Yoruba Muslims to pause and decide whether they are for the “good” of Yorubaland as their predecessors were or remain nonchalant about their Yoruba Nationality while promoting their religious affiliation as the ultimate. Making this choice will allow them to contextualize any and or all their demands. If this choice can be made for them, as it appears is being done, it will pit them against their Nationality, becoming part of the largely “foreign” forces aimed at subjugating the Yoruba Nation

Awolowo's letter to yoruba Muslims.

Like seriously??
Did Awolowo truly wrote this or you just formed it on your own??

I am sure you were not born by then. The number of northerners that died in Lagos in 1993 after babaginda annulled the election that produced MKO abiola as winner was massive. Don't take our quietness as weakness, strength does not lie in acting brash it lies in taking calculated steps.

What about All the Fulani herdsmen killings in the South East, edo, Delta and the likes also. I don't think your people have retaliated because the results will be catastrophic on the Igbos living in northern region .Please endeavor to get things right before you talk

I tire for them ooo... few weeks back it was in the news that a lady was raped and Killed by these herdsmen in the bush somewhere in Okada town Edo state . Pronto , the youths swam into the forest searched everywhere saw one Fulani man ( weather Na him perpetrate the crime or not) gave him better beating to death and displayed his body on d road . That signal was enough to tell the herdsmen that the town isn’t safe for their criminal ways . But here we have the Yoruba man ( wetin Him go chop in 2023 Is more important to him than his brother’s death ).
