How can they have shame when they are now being celebrated in the south west? Their leaders are eulogised and young ones are now aspiring to be like them. The musicians praise them in their songs and they hang out with top politicians in the region. How can they have shame?

There are no society without thugs

Stop making it look like it is only present in South West

Even in USA there are thugs

But the Government should do more to curb them

What is the problem then?

The Okada should just add 500 naira to the original price they used to take and continue their businesses. Those who can not afford should trek or relocate. Lagos is over-populated already.
Senile comment!

In Edo state, revenue collection from commercial drivers is via electronic means

No more Land charges from community and touts
Just buy your land and build.

if this is true, then shame to the government, with the level of insecurity in the country now, government should rather give upper hand to safety conscious and well registered operators like Oride, gokada and maxkada in their various states, they should be separated from louts operated ones.
the likes of Oride , Kadamax and gokada that makes use of safety kits and obeys traffic regulations should be encouraged over ones operated by unknown people where we've had reports of dangerous attacks and robbery, by the way.

Why are you nairalanders very fond of making straw arguments and other ad hominem nonsense when someone drops the unabashed truth?

The person you quoted just drop the hard truth that Lagos and the southwest in particular glorifies the agbero culture and it's affecting some of our kids (who look up to them as role models, as these thugs are rich and hobnob with the high and mighty) and creates barriers for decent society and business. The other terrible culture gaining some popularity, especially in the Southwest are Internet fraudsters (I'm glad the EFCC has been doing a lot to reduce this). It's not much of my business what happens in the south east, other countries or the next house. I worry about what happens in my own house (or region, which is the Southwest)

Must you always quote the US or other countries to justify our weakness. I don't see other countries or regions cite Nigeria in dealing with their own problems. They go ahead and fix it.

The more, you and almost all the other nigerians with these trashy style of thinking, continue to use terms like "It also happens in the next compound", It's doesn't only happen in my village, it happens in my neighbours village" etc when someone confronts you with the truth about your place, region or country, you give excuses for failure of those who should take charge and encourage mediocrity.

No offence though, before you get mad at me with another set of straw man argument, ask yourself why almost every thing never seem to work here despite the high morality showoff and religiosity.

I dont seem to understand why igbo guys here on nairaland are so quick to mention afonja in any bad news dat comes out of southwest. I am sick and tired of correcting guy everyday of stupid acts like this. Do u mean there are no igbo guys that r union members too? Dont we have igbo guys dat commit atrocities too? Lets face and condemn what is wrong not tribalising everytin. The earlier we correct dat, d better for all of us, thank you. smiley

With the way u sounded, it shws u r also tribalistic. Must they always be tribalistic in all they do? If a group of people are doing the wrong tin, does it mean the whole tribe is glorifying them for such acts? Do u know hw many guys that engage in internet fraud in the southwest that are not of southwestern origin? When there is a drug related issue and one idiot mentions igbo dis or dat, they tend to mention the evil a yoruba man commits without pointing accusing finger or trying to correct the persn who has committed the crime. Be plain in ur arguments next time cos not all YORUBA'S are corrupt and irresponsible, thank you and have a nice day. angry
