The list presented here is not of the National University Commission (NUC) but of 2019 Webometrics Ranking of World University. Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of universities from all over the world based on each university’s web presence and impact.

1.University of Ibadan: Fondly called UI, it was initially an affiliate college of the prestigious University of London before becoming a full-fledged independent university in 1962. When it was first established in 1948, it started with academic programs in Arts, Science and Medicine. Now it has grown to include academic programs in 13 faculties. It is ranked 1st in Nigeria and 1148th in the world. It is located in Oyo state, south-western Nigeria.
2. University of Nigeria: It is popularly called UNN and is proudly the first full-fledged indigenous and autonomous university in the country founded by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 but formally opened in 1960. The university currently has 15 faculties and 102 academic departments. It also offers 82 undergraduate and 211 postgraduate programs in a total of 3 campuses situated in Nsukka, Enugu and Ituku-Ozalla all located in Enugu state, south-eastern Nigeria. It is ranked 2nd in Nigeria and 2129th in the world.
3. Obafemi Awolowo University: University of Ife as it was formally called was a pacesetter for universities in all of Africa in the 1970s and 1980s. It is still one of the foremost on the continent and highly respected for the technological flagship of the West African sub-region by applying modern technology to teaching, research, community service and also providing practical solutions to social, cultural and economic problems. It is ranked 3rd in Nigeria and 2247th in the world. It was established in 1962 and located in Osun state, south-western Nigeria.
4. Covenant University: It is apparently the best private university in Nigeria founded with the intention to revolutionize the educational landscape using the platform of Christian ethos and life transforming values that can turn graduates into expert thinkers, unusual managers and hyper-resourceful technocrats in all fields of human endeavor. Located in Ogun state, south-western Nigeria, it was established in 2000 but did not start to operate as a private university until 2002 when the licensing certificate was eventually granted by the National University Commission (NUC). It is ranked 4th in Nigeria and 2294th in the world.
5. Ahmadu Bello University: As one of the foremost university in the country, ABU is made up of 2 campuses with 12 faculties, 1 postgraduate school and 82 academic departments. It also has 5 Institutes, 6 Specialized Centers, a Division of Agricultural Colleges, a School of Basic and Remedial Studies, a Demonstration Secondary School, a Primary School and a Consultancy outfit providing a variety of services to the university and wider society. About 27 institutions comprising Colleges of Education, Polytechnics and School of Basic or Preliminary Studies are currently affiliated to it. It is ranked 5th in Nigeria and 2344th in the world. It was founded in 1962 and is located in Kaduna state.
6. University of Lagos: It is popularly called UNILAG and is widely regarded as the University of First Choice as well as the Nation’s Pride. There is provision for academic programs in 12 faculties and also has a Distance Learning Institute offering courses in Accounting, Business Administration, Science, Education and Library Information Services. It is ranked 6th in Nigeria and 2589th in the world. It was established in 1962 and is located in Lagos state, south-western Nigeria.
7. Federal University of Technology, Minna: FUTMINNA as it is fondly called proudly specializes in technological education. It is indeed a designated center of excellence in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering and has a core competence in the development of vaccines and drugs. It is ranked 7th in Nigeria and 2789th in the world. It was established in 1983 and is located in Niger State, Nigeria.
8. University of Ilorin: UNILORIN is undoubtedly the largest university in the country with a land mass of about 15,000 hectares. As a result of this, the university has only one central campus that accommodates a total of 15 faculties, students’ residential area, staff quarters as well as teaching and research farms. It is ranked 8th in Nigeria and 2791st in the world. It was established in 1976 and located in Kwara state, Nigeria.
9. University of Port Harcourt: It is popularly called UNIPORT and is highly regarded as one of the foremost university in Africa generally. In fact it was ranked 6th in Africa and 1st in Nigeria by Times Higher Education (THE) in 2015. Currently, it is ranked 9th in the country and 3005 in the world according to the 2019 Webometrics Ranking of World University. It was established in 1975 and is situated in Choba/Aluu town in Rivers state, Nigeria.
10. Federal University of Technology, Akure: FUTA as it is fondly called is 10th in the country and 3123 in world ranking

O.P thanks for the info, but U.I is ranked 897th in the world and it is the only Nigerian University in the top 1000 list, "the university with a difference".
