The hospital must compensate her and her family handsomely.

Had this happened in Nigeria now, we would have seen comments like Nigerian doctors are quack, Nigerian doctors are wack etc. People need to understand that there's no place in the world where human error does not occur.
You simply beat me to the emboldened.

Making mistake is a problem. You will only agree if you are made to take one course of chemotherapy. There is no need sugarcoating this event , it is what it is, Top UK hospital wrongly treated someone for a cancer she never had. It happened in UK , it can happen anywhere. There are people receiving chemotherapy for Brest CA in Nigeria and the don't loose their life 'in the process of everything' . Appreciate what you have, no everything that is Naija that is bad
Not sure if there is any functional radiation treatment center in Nigeria. Surgery alone would not get to areas of metastasis. There is none existing for us to appreciate. None whatsoever!

Talk about medical misdiagnosis.. A woman wrongly diagnosed of breast cancer, had her two breast removed, had implant inserted, suffer complications of chemotherapy and other treatment modalities

A 28-year-old woman, Sarah Boyle had undergone months of chemotherapy and having her breasts removed, only to be told she didn’t actually have cancer.

Boyle has been diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer by doctors at Royal Stoke University Hospital at the end of 2016 and started treatment to battle the cancer, reports Independent UK.

However, several months later the hospital realised its error. This was after the mother-of-two had already had extensive treatment, a double mastectomy (removal of both breasts) and reconstructive surgery.

Asides the trauma of the treatments, Boyle is also faced with the fact that her breast implants increases her risk of developing cancer in the future.

“The past few years have been incredibly difficult for me and my family,” said Ms Boyle, who lives in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, with husband Steven, 31, and her two children Teddy and Louis.

“Being told I had cancer was awful, but then to go through all of the treatment and surgery to then be told it was unnecessary was traumatising.

“As if that wasn’t bad enough, I am now worried about the possibility of actually developing cancer in the future because of the type of implants I have and I am also worried about complications that I may face because of my chemotherapy.

Ms Boyle instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers to investigate the case, who have now secured an admission of liability from University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Speaking with the Independent UK, the hospital said it had apologised to Ms Boyle, adding that extra safeguard measures were now in place.

Ms Boyle said she suffered psychological trauma as a result of her ordeal and still has ongoing symptoms caused by her treatment.

She was initially told that her cancer treatment may lead to fertility issues, but went on to have a second child, Louis, who is now seven months old.

However, she was unable to breastfeed him because of her treatment.

Ms Boyle was aged 25 when she was misdiagnosed by doctors following the birth of her youngest child.

If it had happened in Nigeria, they should have tagged their country.
Nobody is insulting their government here, the case is between her and the doctor/hospital.

One thing I like America for, You are in millions of usd Witt this. Unfortunately it’s UK.
That is because in America she would must have Health insurance or paid some money for the surgery, In the UK all that thousands of £££s surgery will cost her nothing!

But she will get compensations for atleast £200000 or more.

Firstly, all due approbations and platitudes such as, at least she is alive and in receipt of double good news, i.e. being cancer free and in possible line of benefiting from financial compensation. But the story get as the thing stand; I mean, it’s like some bleeped up karma. I’m referring to how her situation is evocative of how whites are spoilt rotten by the system. If to say you be black and showing all the symptoms of cancer na so the GP’s and hospital go dey run you around, telling you cockamamie tales on how you are really alright with nothing to worry about and must go home go swallow aspirin instead of bothering hospital and wasting doctors precious time. Inside where them dey fire person chemotherapy radiation you no go see. However, soon as you are white, and in fear even paranoia, they cannot wait to provide you with state-of-the-art health-care even when like this woman you no need am.

Second and third medical opinion is very important.

It's not in the interest of anybody to rely on only one medical opinion. I formed this opinion may years ago based on experience.

There is medical litigation in UK, someone is already loosing his license but unfortunately Nigerians don't know about medical litigation. If they do, many medics would have been untimely retired.

Was it the Surgeon (breast remover) that determines if cancerous or not?

Samples would have been sent to Pathology and a mix up might have happened there!

Free abeg.
