I've never done fiction so can only speak for non-fiction. It's been very profitable for me.

With regards to niches to publish in, every niche has profitable keywords. Once you know how to fish, it's not a question of where to fish but how much fish you can catch.

Have surpassed $8500 in August with 10 Left Days To Go

The momentum in paperback and audiobook sales have continued into the month of August. Sales have been pretty consistent and, based on the way things are going, I project I'll hit $12,000+ this month (if current daily earnings rate continues).

So far in 2019, my earnings have surpassed $80,000 (N28.8 million)

When I think about the early days back in 2017, I took me 7 months to have my first $1000+ month. Then it took less than 3 months to double that to $2000+. It shows that when you consistently put in the work, in due time you will experience this sort of exponential growth.

Breaking Psychological Barriers

As we approach Q4, the month(s) of explosive sales, what are you doing to position your business to profit from it?

Last year, my goal was to achieve a $10,000 month. It was very difficult but I kept at it..guess what? I achieved that feat precisely in November 2018..and repeated it in December 2018 and January 2019.

February and March 2019 were $9000+ each. I returned to $10,000+ in April and since then, I haven't looked back.

What I find fascinating is the fact that throughout the majority of 2018, I saw $10,000 a month as the boogyman...a goal that was too ambitious and slightly out of reach.

Funny thing is, once I achieved it and eventually got used to it, I saw it as the new normal.

It's like running a mile under 4 minutes...no one thought it was possible until Roger Bannister did it on May 6, 1954.

After he achieved that feat, a lot of people all of a sudden changed their mindset and realised running a mile under 4 minutes wasn't impossible after all. A psychological barrier was broken!

Suddenly, a lot of people started running a mile under 4 minutes

As I chase the elusive $20,000 a month, I feel a bit of that pressure...the voices inside my head whispering, doubting etc.

But I know it's not impossible. I've seen others achieve it and if they could do it, why can't I?

We all have the same number of hands/legs/head...and hours in a day.

I will achieve this goal...I know it's only a matter of time.

As you chase your own elusive goals, realise someone has been there before..someone has achieved it and it's not impossible

You write what the market wants i.e. what had demand and is profitable.

To know what has demand, you do keyword research.

Once you find profitable keywords, you structure your book title/subtitle around them.

After that, you get the book written.

Format the manuscript, design the book cover, publish it on Amazon and follow a launch strategy

Rinse and repeat

Historical Earnings From Publishing

KDP has updated my historical earnings dashboard to include July 2019 earnings. Total earnings from ebook and paperback sales alone have exceeded $90,000.

Audiobook royalties (up to August 2019) has exceeded $50,000 (including bounties)

This means that the total I've earned from KDP since I started publishing back in Nov 2016 is over N50million.

This goes to show that anything is possible in this business - if you COMMIT to it.

You don't need to be a yahoo boy to make good money online. If you're willing to work hard, follow a proven and successful process, you'll do fine.

So expanded distribution sales finally came in yesterday. Realised I sold 40 paperbacks via expanded distribution, 42 paperbacks via the Amazon platform and 13 ebooks. Yesterdays Page read was 4457.

It's also my third consecutive month earning $11,000+

We are about to enter the first ember month and I'm excited to find out what this year's Q4 has in store for us all. It certainly didn't disappoint last year and I hope this year will be even better!

Maximizing your earnings

We all know that in the publishing game, the more income-generating assets you have, the more you can potentially earn.

One way to leverage this is to get your books translated into other popular languages like Spanish, French etc. Every dollar you earn eventually adds up.

That being said, you have to make sure that the translators you work with are ethical.

Why?

Some so-called 'Translators" use google translate to translate your book. Google translate is not always accurate and some publishers have gotten their accounts terminated by Amazon simply because customers complained that the translated versions of the book were crap.

On the other hand, hiring good quality translators can be very expensive and it'll take you a very long time to recoup your investment.

You can try going on upwork and interviewing some freelancers. You can request samples and judge the accuracy of their work. You could also ask them to translate a small piece of work you give them - just to make sure they know what they're doing

I remember a few months back when I was working on a new book. I had just received the manuscript back from my writer and I was going through it, proofreading, editing and just making things look neat.

It was a very painful and slow process. I thought it would never end

I questioned myself a number of times, asking "Is it really worth it putting this much effort into a book?"

I was encouraged by the fact that I wanted the best version of my book. I wanted the customer to feel that they got so much value from it.

3 Elements of A Good Book Description

Curiosity:

If your readers have no desire to know what's inside your book, they won't buy


Emotional Appeal:

Logically, people know that in order to achieve a goal, they have to sacrifice. That being said, for your book to sell well, people have to believe your option involves less sacrifice


Urgency:

Why your book? Why purchase it now? Call to action. An example in the dog training niche would be "Every day you're not doing this, you are reinforcing your dog's bad behaviour and that will be terrible for her in the long term. Get this book today"

How To Create A Unique Value Proposition (UVP) In Your Books

Your UVP is a clear statement that describes the benefit of your offer, how you solve your customer's needs and what distinguishes you from the competition. Your unique value proposition should appear prominently on your book description page on Amazon.

How do you craft your UVP?

Look at the best selling books in the niche you're planning to enter. Go through their reviews - especially the 1 and 2 star reviews. See what the customers are complaining most about (I usually make a note of all these issues in a word document). Then produce a book that addresses each of the pain points you identified.

Then find a way to make the customers aware of the benefits your book has. Once your book addresses all of the pain points you identified during your research, it shouldn't be difficult for you to come up with a UVP which will allow you to command a much higher price for your books.
