A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Joe Igbokwe, has lambasted Motorbike hailing service, GoKada, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that operators of GoKada, on Wednesday, said they were shutting down operations temporarily to restrategize and rebrand.

Igbere TV gathered that the move comes after the CEO and co-founder, Fahim Saleh, faced operational hurdles during a ride in the Lagos metropolis.

Narrating his ordeal in a social media post sighted by Igbere TV, Saleh said he was disappointed when a trip of 5 minutes turned out to take more than 15 minutes from the Mainland Bridge to Victoria Island.

According to him, the GoKada rider took a longer route to get to the bridge, “one that would have completely avoided had he used the map”.

But reacting, Igbokwe, a Commissioner-designate of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, mocked GoKada for investing $5.3 million in what he described as mere Okada business.

Suggesting that Lagos State has hand in the challenges facing the company, the APC Lagos spokesman added that 'Okada' business was not sustainable in the commercial city.

“Instead of partnering with govt on BRT, you invested "5.3 million dollars" in Okada business and expect that Lagos state will allow you jeopardise its muliti-billion naira mass transit investments”, he said.

“Call it 'bike-hailing start up' or whatever, okada na okada... it is not sustainable in a city of high density population Lagos”, Igbokwe wrote on Facebook.

Some Nigerians have however disagreed with the APC Spokesman with many tongue lashing him, insisting that he was allowing partisan politics overshadow his sense of judgement.

See how this man has reduced himself to garbage because of politics. If not for Okada, millions of people, businesses will be brought to a standstill. After how many years of BRT, there are routes in Lagos that they have still not covered, a brilliant idea that will help in reducing pressure on public transport but because of slavery politics Igbokwe has lost his ability to reason

Okada business has been around for almost 15 years....and you dare say it is not sustainable? Do you even understand the definition and meaning of that word?


You dey mind am? Instead of condemning them, he should be advocating for stringent safety standards and adherence to traffic rules, to be enforced on Okada riders.

By following better safety guidelines, the Okada riders would have much fewer casualties.

You see why sense is so far from people like you? Those of us who are not from the Southwest, can easily spot morons like you from afar.

What is not sustainable or economically viable about Okada business that has been around for over 15 years, and people have been using the proceeds from it to feed their families for that length of time?

If it was not sustainable, the business would have died out long ago! It solves a pressing transportation need for many people in the city.

And the bulk of Okada riders in Lagos, come from the North and Middle Belt areas. Go and check before you decide to spew rubbbish next time!
