Pure scam and unfounded lies by those who thrive in spreading ignorance and fear because they want people to patronise their sites and blogs. If the poster or op is so intelligent enough, why not use a picture of a gas cylinder like the one above to illustrate your example? No he won't because it is pure lie and noting like that have ever existed or if it existed, the information have been twisted to favour the sacrilegious intention of the op.

The standard is that a cooking gas cylinder should have expiry date.. Most people in Nigeria are using substandard gas cylinders because there is no regulation when this gas cylinders are coming into the country. This is the reason why most people are using cooking gas cylinders that don't have expiry date. Gaa cylinders that have reached their expiry dates are not supposed to be refilled by gas stations because the cylinder is becoming weak to hold much pressure.

iro nla. there is nothing like expired cylinder. For your info, cylinder is two cups of heavy iron securely welded together then got corked with appropriate valve. u only need to worry whe.n your cylinder is rusted . if u suspect leakage in a cylinder , put small watér in d valve area , if it gives bubbles then get d valve replaced by professional.
Hmm.. Seen gas attendants do this on my cylinder several times after refilling, had no idea why. Nice one.

How true is this? Those who know better should educate us.

How to check for the expiry date of your cylinder

Here is how to verify the expiry date of the LPG cylinder. The expiry of LPG Cylinder can be found on one of the metal strips that connect the body of the cylinder to top ring (handle). It is mentioned on the inner side of the strip. The strip has any of the alphabets from A to D painted on it along with a number. Decoding the expiry date is simple. The alphabet represents the month it expires while the number indicates the year. A year is divided into four quarters –

A – January to March B – April to June C – July to September D – October to December

The alphabet represents the month of expiry while the number indicates the year of expiry. A year is divided into four quarters – * A – January to March * B – April to June * C – July to September * D – October to December For example, this cylinder has ‘B 13′ painted on the metal strip. The alphabet B represents month June , and 13 indicates the year 2013. So a cylinder having B 13 mentioned on it means it will or already expire on June 2013.

However, there is a limited grace period of three to four months after the expiry as the cylinder cannot be pulled out immediately out of the circulation. There have been reports that distributors tamper with the expiry date as it is written with paint. So next time you receive a cylinder do check the expiry date and stay safe.”

The digits stand for the year when the cylinder is due for Statutory testing as explained above. Hence D10 would mean that the particular cylinder is to be taken for the next Statutory Testing by December 2010.

In any case, this is not the date of EXPIRY of PHYSICAL LIFE of the CYLINDER

It is further clarified that, during service, every empty LPG cylinder when it comes from the Distributor to the Bottling Plant for filling, is checked for its condition including the marked date for Statutory Testing due. Cylinders due for testing are segregated and sent for testing. Every cylinder after its filling with LPG is checked for correctness of its weight and soundness, before despatch to the Distributors. Every care is taken to ensure that cylinders which are safe for use are only sent to our Distributors for further distribution.
It means if a customer gets a cylinder in June 2010 with marking as B10, it does not indicate that the physical life of the cylinder has expired. It only means that this cylinder is due for Statutory testing by end June 2010.
