exstreve: Some Nigerians can be such miserable gits.... Someone prominent relates to Nigeria in a positive manner and it pains them! SMH Rema and other musicians create JOBS FOR SCORES OF NIGERIANS - producers, DJs, sound engineers and technicians, stage builders and designers, lighting designers, engineers and electricians, artisans, laborers, security, retailers, fashion designers, transporters, etc. The more global attention they garner and the bigger they get, they more money they receive from continental/global tours and the more money they inject into the Nigerian economy. The many concerts by these musicians just in December alone EMPLOYS THOUSAND OF ORDINARY NIGERIANS! Let’s not even mention the global GOODWILL generated for Nigeria (and Nigerians) by these artistes, even in places abroad and among people whose normal visceral reaction is to automatically associate Nigeria and Nigerians with crime, corruption, drugs and terrorism (or just keeping fellow Nigerians happy and preoccupied with other than the daily tribulations and challenges of everyday Nigerian existence)! DEVELOPMENT IS A PROCESS, not an event. Personally, glad to witness several areas of Nigerian life and economic activity that is on the upswing - and even better than the creative INDUSTRY has largely developed and exploded without any significant governmental input and/or assistance, but entirely on the entrepreneurial nous of ordinary Nigerians. Such entrepreneurial spirit will be CRUCIAL towards creating jobs and wealth (plus revenue for the government via taxes, to invest in schools, hospitals, public transportation and infrastructure) that would reduce (if not completely eradicate) hunger, yahoo-yahoo and ultimately terrorism (like BH)! So KUDOS to Rema (and others)! > 1 Like |
