Oral Health Advocacy Initiative in her continuous desire to improve the health and living standard of Nigerian Children, Men and Women especially the hard to reach and undeserved rural dwellers has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Federal Government of Nigeria.⁣

The MoU which was signed by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) exists to facilitate collaboration through the provision of technical assistance, capacity building, training, knowledge and skill transfer.⁣

The scope of the MoU requires the partners to work hard to meet health challenges, mainstreaming partnership in professionalism in the field of health, information sharing, organize workshops and summit both at National and International levels and the development of Medical and health infrastructure in Nigeria.⁣

Subsequently, the parties are to partner in the areas of oral health intervention, Noma intervention, cleft surgery, Oral cancer control, Oral health care for women and children, Oral health perspective of HIV/AIDS and Oral health awareness, sensitization and intervention. Other areas include immunization, maternal death, and infant mortality control, maxillofacial treatments and other health challenges for the period of four years.

Speaking on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Alhaji A. M. Abdullahi said the ministry will monitor and evaluate Oral Health Advocacy Initiative projects periodically while supporting the development of Medical and Health Infrastructure, provide also institutional support in specific areas that will help facilitate a healthy relationship that will translate policy documents to implementation through the partnership with OHAI.

In response, the Executive Director of Oral Health Advocacy Initiative, Dr. Ver-or Ngutor lauded the partnership as he expressed the organization’s commitment to engage in the treatment of communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, infectious diseases, and other emerging and re-emerging diseases. Dr. Ver-or Ngutor added that OHAI will develop models to be used for Health promotion and disease prevention program in line with World Health Assembly.
