philip0906: So you really think that MTN and DSTV revenue from Nigeria makes a dent to the South African economy? Really?? How much do you think they are taken back compared to South Africa's GDP of $350 billion? Then if Nigeria makes life harder for these few companies, and the South Africans reciprocate by making life harder for Nigerians in SA, what moves do you have left? Lets say it goes down to the wire: Nigeria and South Africa reciprocally declare each other's citizens persona non grata...who will really lose more? Have you any idea of the number of Nigerians in South Africa?? 3 Likes |

There's very little the government can do. If the South African government can't bring down crime to a very reasonable level, is it xenophobia it can now crush? The violence unleashed on vulnerable Africans has a criminal offshoot. As long as the unemployment rate remains high and crime as well, expect more xenophobic attacks. 1 Like |

ednut1:Bros, not only Nigerians are constituting nuisance in foreign land... Do you know the great economic sabotage/heath impact all these Chinese and Labanese firms are committing in Nigeria with their fake and adulterated products and drugs. There are some illegal minings going on in this country by this foreign firms and our government is looking elsewhere. I am Uber driver, I have heard crazy things from all these foreign national, if you hear what these foreign nationals are doing to our girls on a daily basis, you will hide in shame whenever the name, Nigeria is mentioned and nobody is talking about it. None of them had been set as an example because we are peace loving people. That doesn't make us weak but an average Nigeria have conscience and believe in Hardwork pays! My point is that not Only Nigerians that are found wanting in this but all other countries but we chose welcome our visitors with open arms while others treat us with discord because we don't have a working government. Time will tell sha. 1 Like |

Like I've said before, if all Nigerians in South Africa engage in illegal activities - deport, punish or do whatever you want to them. If however, certain South Africans are simply taking out their frustrations on us and other immigrants - then that's where there is a problem. We all know the answer lies somewhere in the middle. - South Africans claiming they only attack Nigerian immigrants who commit crimes aren't being entirely truthful. - Nigerians who claim South Africans only attack them because they are lazy and jealous of "hardworking Nigerians" aren't being truthful as well. Crime is Crime. Lazy stereotyping is dangerous and will backfire eventually. Law abiding Nigerians need to leave if they feel threatened. World doesn't start and end in SA. This ridiculous thing is getting tiring... 4 Likes 1 Share |

SmartyPants:MTN was fined $5.2 billion by the Nigerian government, even the most profitable company in the world Aramco, would feel the heat if they were fined such. The goal is not to hit the south african GDP Are the Nigerians killed there affecting our own GDP? No. The goal is to send a message to them. Plus there are still thousands of Nigerians in SA who aren't affected by the whole mess, as they live in the Highbrow areas. Like I said, the goal is to send a strong message to South Africa, that they can't get away FREELY, with the mess going on there. And remember, it is not only Nigerians who are affected, citizens from other countries are targeted too. Like I said in my previous post, if all the countries come together and do same, that will send a strong message to South Africa. 1 Like |

To the best of my knowledge, something must have ignite the anger of south Africans, and I feel it maynt be unconnected with some Nigerian bragging on their achievement which maynt go down well with the owners of the land, this kind of attitude are in some of the part of Nigerians, I dnt wnt to mention but I believed with wisdom, readers may know the tribe am talking about. It's the right time we tell our brothers outside the country to behave themself and don't overshow yourself in respective of your wealth. Respect the people culture and there land, no matter number of year you spend in a place, that doesn't turn you automatic an indegine of the place, moreso never disrespect your host community. This attitude are always the cause of crackers 2 Likes |

harley88: Closing SA businesses in Nigeria will put a strain on our economy, because they have a lot of business interests here. We must not also forget that we have more Nigerians working with these business interests than South Africans, so we would be the bigger loser. What should be done, in my own opinion, is that AU should be forced to gather and impose sanctions on South Africa. Even before that, Buhari should close down South African diplomatic presence in Nigeria. They have a lot of South Africans working there. That should be a major hit. As a matter of fact, South Africa shouldn't even have been allowed to participate in the just concluded All African Games. If possible, military sanction should also be imposed. Troops should be sent into South Africa. Because it is very obvious that the president is either too weak to manage affairs, or he is allowing events to happen. Xenophobic attacks are not terrorist attacks that are relatively harder to contain. It is the act of an unruly mob. For the police not to be able to contain it, then South Africa should be sanctioned. 1 Like |
