The FG is just barking like a dog in the TV. If they really care, the threat should go beyond all these media threats. Action is needed at this crucial moment when callous South Africans burn (not only houses but Nigerians) while the callous government of SA care less and no perpetrator had been brought to book till date. Chai! Na wa o! |

philip0906: You don't seem to get the point. How does hitting back at MTN translate to passing a message across to South African govt? Why should the South African govt bother itself? Did they bother themselves when you slapped MTN with the 5 billion dollar fine? Even if you go ahead and threaten to close MTN down, how does that affect the South African govt? This is the scenario as it plays out. 1. MTN is unjustly punished for something it knows nothing of- Fallback: a. South Africa drags Nigeria to any one of a number of international courts (ICJ, ICA). South Africa/MTN will win that case with possible damages awarded. Nigeria loses and Nigerians continue to be persecuted in South Africa. Nigeria is currently facing the prospect of billions of dollars awarded in damages from similar behavior with an Irish firm. b. South Africa alternatively reciprocates by imposing harsh conditions on Nigerians in South Africa. Stalemate, but Nigerians continue to be persecuted in South Africa, as the Nigerian government has no other leverage to exercise. c. MTN says enough is enough and decides to exit the market since it can no longer be assured of a stable working environment. Other global investors become wary of investing in Nigeria. Nigeria loses as the departure of MTN and other South African giants adds thousands to the already extremely high rate of unemployment. The loss of revenue to MTN and other South African firms will have little impact on the highly diversified and huge South African economy. Meanwhile Nigerians continue to be persecuted. Taking it out on firms who have done nothing wrong is not the solution. I know the average Nigerian would love to argue and stand on their point so you're welcome to it. |

edi287: The ignorance that takes Nigerian economic migrants to South Africa is partially the problem. How can you travel to another country and not read deeply about it, not research? It is like getting married and you not knowing anything about your spouse? There are no jobs in South Africa and that's why many migrants turn to crime. Despair is what leads them to crime. In the quest to feed themselves, they may approach bad eggs for money and the rest is history. It isn't good to be hungry in another man's land. To worsen things, it is a gangsters paradise. Crime is quite high. Homicides are very high. Joblessness and an inviting environment for crime make many hungry migrants turn to crime. I'm sure if these same migrants were in the UK or the USA, they'll stick to the narrow path. Joblessness, poverty, crime, jealousy and a scapegoat for their wretchedness are combustible material for murderous xenophobia. You are right. The truth is in the middle 2 Likes |

Mophasa: a very good idea, also don't forget to send body bags-so we can send them back in dignity...atleast we will have an excuse to level nigeria and have a place to dumb nuclear waste from our current and future nuclear power stations. Just in case you don't know six longest sniper kill in the world belongs to a South African soldiers, SANDF is the only army than manufactures almost all it's hardware in this continent,we are the only african country that is capable of putting armed and unarmed drone in the sky for 48 hours, etc. Not even morocco will dare do that,so good luck baby lion. (we are looking forward to watch war updates from youtube and tv,while you get to see it with your naked eyes in your country) 1 Like |
