The Catholic argument does not come in. I've done research and written articles about topics in this category so I understand what it is with Abrahamic religions because of their monotheism. Islam is just at the stage where Christianity was 1500 years ago in terms of tolerance. Even in Judaism which forms part of your old testament , commands from the Jewsish God demanding murder and rape were celebrated but Judaism as practiced in Israel is more liberal today.

All Abrahamic religions have three stages of evolution. A short period of peace at the beginning to encourage acceptance- A long period of violence and compulsion when it is mixed with politics - A long period of intellectual humiliation and less violence.

Judaism's first period begins with Abraham and ends with Moses leading the children of Israel out of Egypt(There's no history of wars before this time). Second period begins from that point till the 19th century (All the wars allegedly ordered by their God are fought here and Kings like Saul, David, Gideon head the religion alongside prophets and priests thereby making it political). Third period begins after the modern creation of the state of Israel ( Religion is separate from the state)

Christianity's first period began with the apostles as a very peaceful society( No history of war). Its long second period began in Rome (wars , burning on stakes , death punishment for apostasy etc set in. The Emperor ruled alongside the pope making it political). The Third period came after separation from the state.

Islam's first period began with Mohammed preaching peacefully(No history of wars). In the second period, he returns to rule over Medina and Mecca through a jihad thereby creating a link between the Islamic religion and politics which is a feature of the second stage of all Abrahamic religions. Islam is currently drifting to the third stage.

Global policies, opening of western borders for middle eastern refugees and mixture of Arab elites in western politics is giving room for a more liberal Islam. Different liberal Islamic sects are springing up and 200 years from now if liberal sects emerge, is it right for those in these liberal sects to argue that extreme Islam is not bad as far as it is not practiced by the Wahibbis?

Religion extremism is not good , don't label other people's religion.

That is stupidity of highest order, one of his likes just lost his life in Zambia yesterday for fasting for thirty days and this one too is heading to the same thing, out of ignorance. May be they're trying to imitate Jesus or surpass him I don't know, but one thing is for sure you can not fast beyond your capacity, if you do that, you are starving yourself to death and that is suicide which is against the law of God.
