The recent loss of power by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) may be the beginning of the end of the ruling party in the South-West as the 2011 elections draw near with the former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, declaring that the PDP has finally lost the South-West in the coming election.

In a chat with airport correspondents at the presidential lounge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, on Wednesday, Tinubu said that the ruling party would meet its waterloo in the South-West in the coming elections if the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, conducted free and fair elections.

Tinubu, who said PDP was not on the ground in Lagos State, while speaking on the lessons to be learnt from the reversal of PDP’s victory in Ekiti State in favour of the ACN said the lesson was simply “perseverance, belief in constitutional democracy and believe that where you can syndicate the truth is the court.”

Reacting to the muscle flexing by the PDP that it will capture Lagos State in 2011, he declared: “I don’t know where the PDP is in Lagos; we will allow them to cry, since 1998, PDP has been crying ‘take over’, ‘tsunami’, ‘capture’, ‘conquer’, we said we are not at war or in slavery, they are a chop and let chop party, they don’t exist in Lagos, it’s a party without a single councillor in Lagos.

“We are going to drive PDP away from the South-West in 2011; PDP will lose South-West, with one man, one vote, true electoral principle, constitutional democracy, a reliable electoral register, a well planned election, if Jega’s integrity that he puts forward is anything that he must protect, then PDP is gone from South-West.”
