Automotive1:

Did you know that the ₦5.5 billion Senate budget for the purchase of brand new luxury cars for its principal officers will equip the Nigerian Police Force with 36 Robinson R-44 Raven II helicopters, at ₦153.6 million ( $425,000) each?

Yes 36! And that means each state can get one each to fight the current spate of insecurity, kidnapping, insurgency, banditry, and other forms of crimes, that is currently crippling the country.

And to even solve the problems of unavailability of cars to go to crimes scenes, the ₦5.5 billion can also equip the NPF with 197 Innoson IVM G80 SUV that starts at ₦27,825,000 or 595 Carrier 4×2 that cost ₦9,400,000.

Despite the lawsuit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), BudgIT, Enough is Enough (EiE) and 6,721 concerned Nigerians, seeking to stop the release of the funds, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, said their efforts is bound to fail.

He told reporters in Abuja that :

The civil society group’s spokesman, Kola Oludare, while speaking with CNN, said:

A 2013 study by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) revealed that Nigerian lawmakers pocket the highest salaries in the world.

What Do You Think?

They are busy paying themselves huge sums of money while the wives and kids of our fallen heroes go begging for benefits. The retired civil servants are treated like dogs before they get their monthly stipend called pension.

What a progressive bunch of leaders Nihmgeria has.

Why should corporate organisations buy cars for the police? Is police a charity organisation? If an organisation buys car for a corporate body, how do you expect the same police to arrest, investigate and prosecute that same organisation when it is involved with a crime?
If corporate organisations buy the cars, then who maintains and fuel the cars? Are police equipments not in the budget?

Same goes for states, if states are allowed to have their own police, then whatever they decide to buy for their police is their business, but it is unethical for state governments to equip federal police they have no control over.

Why all the focus on 109 senators and no one is saying anything about 360 redundant house of reps members? If there would be any protest, it would be to scrap the House of Assembly, not the Senate.

How collecting #5.5billion from crook to crook solve problem. When you pay some black uniform people salary they still wait for you on the road to collect money and even kill and tagged you yahoo if you decide not to give. It's better to give the money to genuine enterprenuer or what's the outcome of #660billion Dazuki gate.

Robinson R-44 Raven II helicopters for security in a nation like Nigeria is not feasible.

And can we all stop this fuckery of crying against these cars for NASS members.
Everyone of you will gladly receive official car from your companies if you are entitled to it. Will you say No MD. Ask HR to use the money and give the cleaner and security man bonus?

Do you know what 5.5 billion really is?

Nobody said official cars are not needed but doesn't that amount just for cars for a handful of people sound outrageous to you?

Can you in all honesty quantify the quality of their lawmaking to the cost of maintaining the National Assembly?
