Yes I do. N5.5bn is N5.5bn.

It isn't a handful of people. The population of the NASS is FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY NINE (469).
360 Reps and 109 Senators.
5.5bn divided by 469 puts it in more perspective.

This is the best part of your argument. I have clamored since 2008 for NASS to be scrapped. This is what we should be angry about and not 5.5bn on cars they have actually paid the supplier as we speak, and supply will start soon.
Can the NASS (Senate and House of Rep) be scrapped totally and we change the constitution to have Federal Legislative functions carried out by the Speakers and two members of the 36 States House of Assembly one week every month.
The only thing they earn is sitting allowance of N7m per week and should be paid by their State sending them to Abuja.
No NASS. No NASS Budget. And we save trillions. And the State House Assemblies are further strengthened. Representation and allocation is more focused. That is the real issue. Not 469 cars

Restructuring the NASS has always being a contentious issue since ironically they're partly still the ones with the constitutional powers to start the process. And from all indications since 1999 the various assemblies have shown time & again that they're there only to serve their own interest.

On this car issue, I think people should be vocal in letting their displeasure known because the NASS excesses keep increasing. They keep bringing up frivolities to justify the huge budget allocation they're being given.

Personally it's the copycat effect by the State Assemblies am even concerned about, just like the Jeep purchase saga less than 2 years ago

Let’s look at the figures and remove sentiments and emotions from this issue
N5.5bn to buy cars for the NASS members is about N11m each
Do you know that the same NASS member will get N9m/year or N36m in four years as MOTOR VEHICLE ALLOWANCE, and another N7.2m in four years as VEHICLE MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE?
So the N11m car will cost you, your children, your parents, your entire village another N43m to service?
That is N21trn (Twenty-One Trillion Naira) for their cars in four years.
This is what we should be discussing, not N5.5bn
Like I said can we stop getting orgasm on N5.5bn and get angry with N21trn.

Let's assume the following
State Assemblies cost us all N36bn
National Assembly cost us all N20bn
If we scrap NASS and upgrade ONLY the Speakers of the State Assemblies, 36 of them and add N5bn to their largesse.
We would have saved N16bn as a nation.

The cannot copy the wanton waste of NASS.

Guy, did you just compare a private company to a country? Not just a country mind you, one that is supposed to be democratic? Are you well?
Can you recall any time when the dealings of a private company affected the future of a whole country?

People are not saying they shouldn't collect what's owed to them, but a change in the constitution is implied in people's outrage. We all understand that the only way to curtail their expenses is through constitution or the congress bylaws
