selemempe: Gowon was not a middlebelter by heart. He was born and bred in Zaria (Hausa land). His family are intermarried with Hausa fulanis. This was why he was a strong 'pan-northerner'. He was the best Pawn the core-north could use in their game to deceive the middlebelters. The likes of Dimka and Orkar who at different times wanted to overthrow a pro arewa government were the ones you could truly say were middlebelters by heart! 3 Likes |

Kollyman: Exactly. Another way fulanis use in keeping Hausas and other islamized northern minorities in perpetual bondage is through intermarriage. They intermarry into the elite Hausa class, thereby making every enlightened, rich and educated Hausa man a mix of fulani blood. As a hausa man or woman, you can never think of hurting the fulanis when your wife, mother, daughter in law, husband, mother in law or cousins are fulanis. They then become one inseperable people in islam. This only happens among the rich and middleclass who have the voice in the society. However, among the illiterates Hausas & fulanis are very seperate and unmixed. This is exactly the same thing fulanis are doing in Ilorin. Almost every educated and wealthy Ilorin family is of mixed fulani heritage. 2 Likes 1 Share |
