Nigeria’s Satellite Passes Global Mandatory Test by Nobody: 4:23am On Nov 04, 2010

FROM China has come cheery news that the Nigerian Communication Replacement Satellite (NigComSat 1R) has passed the mandatory international spacecraft performance test.

Managing Director of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, Ahmed Rufai, told The Guardian in Abuja that China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) officials have assured that the in-orbit delivery of the space craft will surpass the requirement and expectations of Nigeria.

To check the reoccurrence of the crisis experienced when the former version, NigComSat 1 was de-orbited, NigComSat Ltd announced that it was working on projects for two more satellites that would serve as back-up to the replacements.

NigComSat1R spacecraft is a replacement for the NigComSat 1. The spacecraft was designed and manufactured by the CAST, a subsidiary of the China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC).

According to Rufai, “the overall design and manufacture of NigComSat1R is identical to that of NigComSat1 with necessary adaptations to address local market needs. NigComSat1R spacecraft can meet Nigeria’s requirements on communication, broadcast, navigation and broadband access and also provide services for Africa, Europe and Asian continents.”

He also assured that as part of the replacement satellite attractions, there was a newly introduced beam over China to realize a direct link between Africa and Asia.

His words: “The spacecraft will be operated on geo-stationary orbit at 42.5`E. It will provide 14-Ku band active channels, 4-C band active channels, 8-Ka band active channels and two navigation active channels. The antenna subsystems of the satellite include 2-Ku band deployable antennas, 2 -ka band fixed antennas, 1-C band navigation antenna, 1-L band navigation antenna.

“The satellite design life is 15 years and will be launched at Xichang Satellite Centre by a launch March 3B vehicle in November 2011. Great attention was paid by both the Chinese and Nigerian governments in the manufacturing of the spacecraft.

“The satellite is being replaced at no cost to Nigeria, as the China Great Wall Industry Corporation is funding it. It is important to note too that the satellite, Nigcomsat1 was de-orbited and not missing. This was after the satellite solar array (solar power) broke down. We had to de-orbit the satellite to minimise damage done to the facility and prevent it from navigating aimlessly and clashing into other satellites in space.”

He was hopeful that the advent of Nigcomsat 1R would reduce the local cost of bandwidth, create more jobs and save Nigerian telecoms operators about $500m which they spend yearly to import bandwidth.

I am absolutely flabbergasted.

Say what? Yes, China must tell us we passed before we know we passed.

I wouldn't believe whatever these Chinese thing says.  wasn't lost. was de orbited  to avoid collision with other space satelite , blablablabla,  The Nigeria Goverment haven't learned their lessons yet, they are been blind folded while being fed through their ears . The great wall company is behind all blocked website, networking public websites, computer filtering software installed which allows  specific categories of information to be blocked from the public viewing in the main land China, I can see now extending their communist warfare into buiding a satelite for Nigeria, When the wind blows the hen's feather, nothing is hiding again.  We are on the blacklist among countries to be watched out for in China.

Stupid comment!

Yes people are starving but over a million Nigerians are connected to satellites that are not owned by Nigeria.

True, and theres still like 120 million hungry people there every day. . . . .

The idea is that whether the 120million eat or not. Over 1 million pays indirectly, millions of dollars every year to companies that are not even present in Nigeria.

What are we to believe? They said it was missing before and we were never briefed it was de-orbited.

Actually yes we were. I specifically remember them saying the orbit decayed when they lost communication with the initial satellite.

It was the media that reported "missing" They need to sell and sensational news sells more. A lot of people don't even read the body, they just read the headlines.

May be the next time you are reading a newspaper, you try to see if there are official sources in the news. phrases like "undisclosed sources, " "an highly placed official, " are suspect and more time should be devoted to finding out the true situation of things before concluding.

great, everybody is deserve to yan their opinion.
i just hope those nigerian engineer/scientist have a sound mind and learn quick. cus the truth is maga must surely pay for his/her ignorance. cus we don't need a repeat of these learning and spending experience with these chinese guys to experiment with our "dough" .
people can go hunger for the main time ,hunger will not kill as much as natural disaster in the future. if nigeria does n't do this , we won't be able to help our countrymen and the other smaller african nations.

some jokers use to say nigeria is safe when u talk about flooding , erosion=landslides ,boulder =mass movement . dem don no better now, flooding in sokoto, lagos, kogi, part of delta etc, erosion destroyed lands in anambra, edo etc.
the ocean problem in lagos has reduce 4 "now" in bar beach but later since the atlantic water will certainly raise in the future. it is only a sensible leader wey go school na im go continue with this project.

Owning your own satallite is one of the ways of reducing poverty. Instead of paying millions of dollars yearly to other companies outside Nigeria, These monies can be retained here for our own use.

True talk. We are hopeful, by 2025, Nigeria would launch her own indigenous satallite to space from Nigeria soil. They are working on it.

impressed!but will it really crash prices of telecommunications, like u no,10 naira per minute to any network,500 naira per month for unlimited bandwith, etc, etc grin
Re: Nigeria’s Satellite Passes Global Mandatory Test by hercules07: 6:30pm On Nov 04, 2010
The satellite stuff will not crash any prices, SAT3, GLO1 and Main1 are the ones to crash prices, what is the total bandwidth that will be carried on the satellite sef, how many transponders do we have on it. The last one that got "missing" could not do much. We actually need satellites that will aid farmers, those are practical ones not all this communications stuff. The problem of communications in Nigeria now is distribution and not transmission, most of the providers have fiber rings around Nigeria including Nitel sef.

people are not just satisfied, even they say we have the best satellite in the world, some crazy fellow will surely find fault; some people are always looking for fault without adding any value in any ways possible. little contribution might go a long way to change a nation; in another thread some people are complaining about the bashing of Nigeria on CSI but they can never see when good lines about Nigeria are used; Inside Africa on CNN air some good stories about Nigeria but the moment to tell a not so good one, we start making noise.

Malaysia, Turkey, U.A.E., Bahrain etc are all Islamic states, yet they have managed to use the western technology to accelerate development in in these countries.

I agree completely with you. There are also many milions of poor people in China, but they are using modern technology to reduce poverty. In Nigerian we seem to rely on prayers alone to get our problems solved. What a shame.

Waddya mean that technology's western. Listen bros, in the 1300s-1900s, long before colonialism and stuff, there was this thing, it was called the caliphate. Now the caliphate was a country of sorts that comprised of the entirety of the Arab world and ruled with shariah, and under the caliphate's rule, science and technology thrived in the Arab world and Arab countries became the most technologically progressive countries in the world. All these boko haram imbeciles pushing for technology's elimination are illiterates, Almajiris, that no absolutely nothing about Islam

Nigeria would patronize everybody and everything -They patronize Koreans, Indians, Chinese, Ivoriens, Canadians, Britons, etc. When will others patronize us?
