Members of the Host Communities of Federal
University Lokoja (FUL) have called on President
Muhammed Buhari and the Minister of Education,
Mallam Adamu Adamu to urgently wade into the
alleged illegal sale of employment letters by the
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Angela
Freeman Miri.
The members who were drawn from Lokoja and its
environs said the VC allegedly sold employment
letters to mostly non indigenes at a cost ranging
from five hundred thousand naira ( # 500M to One
million Naira) to prospective job seekers who are
mainly from her home state, plateau state.
Speaking to Journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday, a
group of protesters from Lokoja, the host
community, led by the Council Administrator,
alleged that out of the three hundred employment
letters issued out by the University, non was
allocated to indigenes, as preference was given to
non indigenes with the capacity to pay.
The spokesperson of the protesters Musa Danladi
Umar alleged that a Member of the House of
Representatives Representing a constituency in
plateau state, had paraded sixteen employment
letters he secured for his constituents, lamenting
non inclusion of the host communities of Lokoja
Kogi Federal Constituency, where the university is
located.
Umar added that it was unfortunate that extant laws
establishing federal universities allocated certain
percentage of employment to the host communities
decried the denial of indigenes owing to their
inability to pay the alleged bribery amount , even as
he demanded for the immediate sack of the VC.
The protesters holding placards with various
inscriptions like , No to sale of employment; Is it a
sin that FUL is located in Kogi; PMB Come to our
rescue, Miri Must Go, call for the the following of
due process in the employment.
Meanwhile , the security men from the University on
the order of the Vice Chancellor , have refused the
immediate community, Adankolo Elders forum
access to meet the VC for explanations, while
media men were disallowed into the university
premises.
He said, although the Administrator of Lokoja LGA
Dansabe Mohammed who led the management of
the council and community leaders to the University
to ascertain the allegations of the sale of
employment was allowed to meet with the VC, he
was kept into the waiting room of the reception for
hours without being attended to, an action that
infuriated the protesters.
All efforts to reach the FUL spokesman failed as he
rebuffed all calls made to him.

Nigeria is a mess. I could recall applying to lecture in one of our federal institutions with a first class degree but wasn't offered the job. The person employed wasn't as qualified as myself but got the job because he's "connected". That's all in the past now, but it hurts knowing many people are being denied fair share of trials because they have no one to give them an introduction letter. There's so much wrong in this nation. Almost everybody is looking for the slightest of opportunities to show their corrupt nature.
