ArticleBeast: My Kaduna friends always forming about KD, Lagos is hectic tho. I heard that there was evil traffic yesterday, sotayyy, news carry am. The issue of development doesn't lie wholly with Federal Govt. State govt has a huge role to play. The FG should diversify industries, as you've said, and spread it across states. They should encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. All the Versace we wear, our Aba boys can do it. Computer village na Silicon Valley. FG should create useful infrastructural facilities and not statues .SG should supervise their proper administration, maintenance and upkeep. Naija really, truly has the potential to be great. It's just that this kwaruption issue has finished us, coupled with terrible leadership |

kettykin: Wrong caption! Bad belle. Lagos is not dying, and it won't die. Economically, it has huge prospects seen by d likes of Dangote who is building a monumental refinery in Lagos. His likes are also establishing huge businesses in neighbouring states like Ogun in order to tap into d Lagos prosperity. Hopefully, the lagos govt will soon be able to manage the growing population & d environment, to the dismay of Lagos enemies and pessimist. Lagos is d smallest state in Nigeria in terms of land mass, but is d biggest economically, feeding millions of individuals and businesses daily. Lastly, Lagos is one of d biggest economies in Africa. What d govt needs is to properly manage d population & d environment, as it relates to this article (with a misleading topic). 5 Likes 1 Share |

taiwoawoniyi:Yeah you not far from the truth. You know this mentality of people rushing to lagos for greener pasture, nollywood played a huge role. Ikenna in the movies moves to lagos with no skill or education, in 2 months time, he returns with a range rover. Most of us while growing up started to conceive the notion of Lagos being a 'hammer' ground. I lived there for 2 months and I nearly lost my sanity. The rush, noise, pollution, fake lifestyle, leeching and dubious attitude,I just couldnt deal with it. 2 Likes |

To be honest, I cherished the past cosmopolitan nature of Lagos . But since 2015 it became an extension of Niger republic The 3 governors from Niger republic must have something to do with the influx of migrants from Niger. Remember, these 3 governors came from Niger republic with thousands of boys to campaign for Buhari. 1 Like |

God bless you for this observation This got me thinking after watching a news on TV over a peaceful protest by Academicians from both Lagos state university and Lagos state polytechnic and they were addressed by members of the state house of assembly whose requirement to lead is just to get a WAEC result. I felt this wasn't the best place to seek refuge. My opinion though, thanks. TheWrita: |

Nonsense. It is not the people that are killing lagos, it id the administration. The government has done nothing to help lagos. The major problem im lagos is road and proper street drainage. Some inner streets in lagos are so bad for human habitation |

TheWrita: Lagos is Lagos, port or no port. London doesn't have port and yet it is a triving City . Lagos has the alluring energy, vibrancy, economic dynamics and that is why it is the melting point of people from different cultures and states. Abuja is the seat of power with better roads with relatively planned layouts but it can never be compared to Lagos...no where in Nigeria can. It either you have it or you dont. 4 Likes |

kettykin:you lie, a million years to this time Lagos is still standing. All of you have invaded our land all in the name of One Nigeria and ruin it all. You did it to Ibadan first and we are just re-building now after it was left to ruins. You've invaded Lagos again now with all sorts of lawlessness and barbarism. Lagos and Ibadan that is supposed to be contesting with Mallorca, Manila, Barcelona, New York and all can't even compete with Joburb and Dakar successfully. Thanks to One Nigeria. Badagry is there living in ruins too. One Nigeria must go away so we can take back our lands from intruders/invaders. 1 Like |

sogodihno: Your comment started sensibly, but then you delved into tribal slurs which portrays you as no better than the hoodrats you were cussing out. Why do you think people from the SE and SS are fed up with your "one Naijiria?" Did you think for a minute those boys from the SE and SS flooding into Lagos had better choices? Its not just them. Check out the ethnicity of thousands of okada riders. Most are from the far north. In fact, many are from neighboring countries to northern Nigeria. So, do remember to direct your impotent rants as them as well. At least their SE counterparts would eventually settle to a somewhat organized life, start businesses, pay taxes, contribute to developments in their own little ways and a certain percentage would eventually become landlords in Lagos. Can you say the same for those from the north and neighboring countries? I mentioned that folks from the SE are fed up with "one Naijiria", right? Now, you ask their state governments to do something to attract their people and prevent them from trooping to Lagos. All right. Now, when it comes to opening up a town and make it experience growth and produce jobs, government has a huge role to play. What are those roles? Provide stable electricity Provide good roads Let each state/region have control over their airports and seaports. Give incentives to attract investments/industrial establishments The first 2 should be in place before an industrial revolution, right? Now, who is in charge of the first two? Federal government. To a lesser extent, state governments are into road construction (so called trunk B roads) Ask anyone who should know. The most important roads within any geographic region in Naijiria is controlled by the FG. FG put so many items under an "exclusive list" that it controls. This includes roads, airports, seaports, electricity, armed forces (including police) crude oil exploration and refining, mining and exploration of ALL mineral resources etc. Few weeks ago, FG told state governments that it would not reimburse for any federal roads the latter chose to repair. So, no more motivation for state governor's to fix such roads. The bulk of monthly allocations the FG gives to states are used to pay the civil services, build/rehabilitate portions of few roads, and the rest goes into private pockets of state government and its officials. Real potential for growth is stifled. Did you know that the international airport in Enugu got shutdown by FG under the guise of repairing the runway nearly two months ago? Till this moment, no preliminary work or pretence at work has been done. Hundreds have been rendered jobless through that scam alone till further notice. If "hustling" pushes them to Lagos, you would still complain abi? See, I've said enough. The helpless people you are criticizing are mere victims of an unjust system. Government has failed. Which is why sane people are asking for a restructured government with autonomous geopolitical regions like prior to 1960. Failure to do that, nothing but chaos and a total implosion of the country would ensure. What you are complaining about is a symptom that has been festering for a long time. The people of the SE and SS and others you are blaming are as helpless in the face of it all. Silly yorubas keep mouthing "one Naijiria" So, enjoy the one naijiria. You have no right to complain if the entire 200m Nigerians choose to relocate to Lagos State. This is just the beginning. |
