Nigeria Bashed (Or Exposed?) Again On American TV - CSI On CBS by jakaiso(m): 2:33am On Nov 05, 2010
The current episode of CSI showing this night 8pm CST Time in USA on the CBS Network was just another avenue for the western world to bash ( or expose) Nigeria-all depends on how you view it.

The CSI team is investigating a guy who runs a credit card protection company and there are complaints by his clients that their credit cards found their way to Nigeria (yes Nigeria was chosen-out of the over 198 countries in the world!).

Nick: And you know what will happen to them in Nigeria?
Katherine: Yeah, what happens in Nigeria doesn't stay in Nigeria."

Bashing or Truth?

Don't we profile Arabs/Muslims in Movies to be terrorists? Nothing new here. Nigeria has been mentioned in other shows too like House MD in connection with email scamming.

Oyibos are scared of us, because naija is very talented in every ramification.
naija man can use 5 minutes to destroy/tap what an oyibo man spent years to build/create

This would have been provocating if it were mendacious, but it's not. Since it's the truth, it should be taken as a call for moral ablution.

Our reputation goes b4 us am afraid. In professional circles in Europe, I find it embarrassing telling anyone I'm Nigerian. It's that bad.

We do a pretty good job in bashing our country anyway. 80% of Nollywood movies potray Naija in bad light, Thugs, ritualist, greedy/murderous uncles, drug barons, high class and low class whores, 419 etc.
Their is a saying in Ibo that goes" If you call your nice china plate rubbish your neigbour will use it to carry garbage".

I am wondering why everytime Nigeria is potrayed (just the way it is) in foreign media, we always hala , when BBC showed the slum , when they showed Olu omo of oshodi , when they showed Mr Amos agreeing to collect $800k . Are these things lies , NOPE ! , Its just the way nigeria is , i know it is sad but we could stop deluding ourselves.

Do we need CSI to tell us what happens to a credit card when it gets into the hands of and average 9ja boy? Nobody should come here and act like Saint Goodluck ooo.

I've seen one of the classic nigerian lines here again (Oyinbo people are not smart and they are jealous because we are better than them); Now what kind of line is that , for some reason we like to think of ourselves as very smart, intelligent ,
but are we really, have u been in class with oyinbo people, they are very smart people and yes maybe a few nigerians shine abroad, thats just a minute number out of 140 million (I mean if we are so smart and there are 140million of us why cant we do something as simple as choosing the right leaders, or a least saying enough to those misleading us .)

Nigeria is what it is, either we work together to change it or we just dont, but lets not decieve ourselves
Re: Nigeria Bashed (Or Exposed?) Again On American TV - CSI On CBS by novaman: 2:26pm On Nov 05, 2010
don't go around looking for the bad things said about Nigeria in films, I have seen more 100 films where Americans bash Russia, Iran even England, so whats the noise about Nigeria been mentioned in films, ask your producers to bash Americans too, it just a film no big deal; if a Nigerian producers makes a film about Charles Taylor, you don't expect him not to mention Liberia; in some film too they have mentioned Nigeria with good reasons, so talk about that too. haba

WE ARE NUMBER ONE WHEN IT COMES TO SCAMMING NOW . . . . NO B LIE , SO WHY UNA DEY VEX , EVEN GOVERNMENT DEY SCAM US ON A DAILY BASIS . . . .WE ALL DEY MAGA OURSELVES . . LOL . .
Re: Nigeria Bashed (Or Exposed?) Again On American TV - CSI On CBS by ada241: 2:48pm On Nov 05, 2010
why is this a topic - we are known all over the world for fraud so why are people getting upset. I'm sure we all have our views of various countries all over the world so why the excitement!!

if we lived in a society where thieves are not revered and the "big man" syndrome did not dominate then maybe things would be different. Abeg CSI is one of my favourite shows on earth and if people are that worried about what this show is saying then write a letter to CBS and complain. But I think we should clean up our backyard first.

I mean sorry to sound racist to the Asians on this forum but i personally do not like doing any kind of financial business with them cos in the UK they are just as dodgy as Nigerians - abeg chill.

Whether bashed or exposed, that's what we'll continue to get until we either change, or really develop to the points that our own TV shows and cable networks become popular worldwide and we let the world see the good side of us.

Nobody will tell our stories for us, its our responsibility to impose our relevance on the world stage, or we do jeje-ly and behave well and not spoil our name as we no get power to fight back, while those we look up to for consumption of their works (media or goods and services), continue to supply us entertainment and the likes, so why the complain?

Yo dude, I don't think Nigeria should be slandered at every given opportunity regardless of our reputation. They are not paragons of morality themselves why do they then thrive on insulting us? If any other country painted America in such a light they'd be beside themselves with indignation. I say Bleep the USA, they can eat ma dicke (no homo). Naija boys, get your money up.

Somewhere in Wikipedia under "internet scam" or so, Nigerians are used not only in the definition, but AS the definition cheesy. In movies, they feel it won't sound authentic if they don't use Nigeria(ns) as the scammers. You want them to use Egyptians or Togolese? Nothing to be proud of but that's what u get for being "notorious" for something.

Thanks Ayo, we either work for a change or stand aloof and watch the world mock us and make a fool of us all. Right now the inbox I use for NL is filled with numerous 419 mails from able-bodied men that wake, sit on their computer and waste precious time collecting emails from NL to deceive people and get their money. I am even tired of replying them with a "F*kc off, quit being foolish and get something useful doing before I hand you in". The whites can't stoop to using their intelligence like that.
It's high time we bring in change and change can also come when we quit being tribalistic and elect a good leader that can see to the wellbeing of the masses. If our youths have good jobs and benefit from the wealth of the nation, they will rather get busy striving positively for survival and not shaming us all around the world. I am very passionate about a change!

This is a trend that started about 5 years ago. Its nothing against Nigeria or Nigerians per se but the result of our new found popularity in the world stage. Because the said popularity happens to be for scamming is just a by the way thing. its even a pseudo compliment Nigeria being the current most recognizable african country. that being said, i do hate it when the lazy writer cant bother to properly research Nigerian names.

if you really want to see Nigeria being used on tv then watch rubicon. where nigeria is a central plot of the series. or this episode of boondocks I watched today about ruckus trying to explain his absence by saying he caught the nigerian pox virus. then he goes ahead to say those damn nigerians with their scams and underwear bombs now this pox.lfmao.

anyway
