The west are responsible for these inadequacies! They find ways to accepts stolen funds and always refuse to give it back
!

They in turn use the IMF to borrow back these funds with extremely high interests rates and kickbacks. They taught the African nations especially Nigeria how to defraud it’s citizens!

If you were the west, won't you accept the money? Was it stolen by you? Or from your people? You so-called advocates of Pan-AfRicAnIsM never ever take responsibility for your actions! How come Asians can't be manipulated by the same west?

Going through the thread to read people blaming their colonialists after 60 years of independence! When their mates in Asia are prospering and collaborating with the same westerners who are accused of abating corruption even when the very article by The Economist says western governments are getting sick and tired. With such mor0nic comments, it's not surprising that westerners have developed stringent immigration policies to sieve out only the best and brightest amongst the lot.

Keep abdicating your responsibilities till when una reach 100 years. Una eyes go clear.

The problem with Nigerians and by extension Africans is that we are not ready to do the hard work of becoming developed nations.

Asian countries heavily invested in education and industrial development. That's why China, Japan and South Korea are developed...it isn't because the West likes them (infact racisim towards Asians is just as bad in the West)...but because they did the hard work, and developed.

Most African countries work on the principle of exporting raw materials, and using the scarce forex imported to import stuff which they then sell at very high prices. And in order to get access to that money...we adopt a 'sharing the money formula' which means that most of the time, our economy is based on how much money we can share...not on actual prodcution (see this year's budget).

Corruption thus flourishes because the money we are earning is not based or linked to our productive and innovative capacity, but on how much raw materials we can dig out of the ground and sell. Who cares if billions are looted...it's nobody's money.

Then we turn around and blame the West for our mistakes.

If anyone should be blaming the West, it is the same Chinese and Japanese...whose countries were wrecked by the same West and who got right to work looking for things to produce, not raw materials to export.

If you were sensible enough you’d see how the west have been absolving themselves from this heinous crime all these years!

Yet, they form big brother on paper! Let’s put Nigerian’s as a case in point! Is the British government not aware that Nigeria is a failed entity? But they have turned a blind eye towards the valid points some aggrieved parts of the country has taken to secession. Millions of pounds have been stashed in European banks, what have the EU or Britain in particular done to repatriate these funds? We as a country can only move forward if these super powers make it difficult and impossible for politicians to stash out common wealth abroad!

Please try and have sense before spewing trash.. thanks

Absolutely! correct. what i don't understand is the idea of Looting millions of Naira and depositing them in Foreign bank accounts while Nigeria and Nigerians suffer, when were these thieves going to spend this millions? when they die? it beats my imaginations, why would one individual need $100 millions or more? If they are Like 50 year old which most of them are, How much years would a looter have left to spend $100 million?

Get this, $600bn. which is approx N258trillion has been stolen from Nigeria by white supremacist nation us corrupt local Nigerian politicians as agents.

The $600bn which is a small fraction of the actual amount when you include malabu oil block which alone is worth N500trillion, is sitting in the same white supremacist nations writing these silly reports .

Honestly, you've elucidated and summarised the problem which has solutions embedded in it. Asian countries were colonised and exploited by the very west yet they never blamed westerners. Rather, they did what had to be done and today not only rub shoulders but challenge them. But my people believe that by blaming westerners 60+ years after independence, they are doing the right thing.

It seems you did not read the original article by TE. Monies have been returned but they were stolen by the same people who deposited them. At your last statement, Nigeria will not suddenly move forward when western countries prevent stolen monies being deposited in their banks. It would move forward when the vast vast majority of the citizenry decide to hold their government accountable and not expect outsiders to do so. When in fact these outsiders have their interest which might not align with yours and rightly so, they have to protect them. How much have the leaders of UAE, India, Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil Vietnam etc deposited in western countries?

Anyway, no problem. Shey next year will make it 60 years after independence? Hopefully, in the next 40 years, una eyes go shine well well. Remember that by 2050, Nigeria will surpass the US to be the 3rd most populated country and Lagos would by the end of the century have 88 million residents. Imagine today's flood with 20+ million. Now, do same when it's 88M..

Keep blaming colonialists. E go be like dream for una eye. grin

You sound like an uncouth fellow who is only trying to force words out of the throat of others. The countries you mentioned above do not fall in line with my mentions about African nations, specifically Nigeria as case in point.

This is no blame, my arguments are valid and you have done nothing to address it. Because you mistakenly travelled out of the country and enjoy the little life over there does not mean you should throw it in the eyes of others. Stop following the prerogative of the slave masters. You better wake up, you could be repatriated any moment, I hope not. Stay blessed and humble

I think, Yakubu Gowon was the last reasonable leader we had

After he left, it was back to back eediots that ruled us

Oh! Please...he may not have stolen, but the man was too young, too inexperienced, and had no vision whatsoever (at that time) to lead. A man who infamously quipped that Nigeria had so much money and does not know what to do with it shocked I put the responsibility for a lot of the problems we are facing today bang on his doorstep. At most I’ll place him behind Shagari in the list of honest-but-inept past leaders of Nigeria.

Can we actually dig out any raw materials from the ground? Do we even have the capacity to know that they exist under our ground?
Since we are only about sharing money, we have not even developed any capacity for these things.

Why are they complaining?
Aren't they the one aiding it?

They know Nigerian politicians are fantastically corrupt yet they dine, wine and plot with them.

It's only when it doesn't favour them that we start hearing stories that touch.
Hypocrites.

Follow up: one of my uncles worked in the bank for more than 20 years, he always says Nigeria is good that he cannot relocate and Nigeria is forever. 2 years ago he was laid off, guess what? he cannot get another job, always complain of money and the corrupt system.

when he was stealing at the bank, Nigeria is good. now no good
