Nigerians Call For Gov Obiano’s Resignation Over Slow Response To Anambra Fire

Nigerians have demanded the resignation of Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, over his government’s slow response to the fire incident in Onitsha on Wednesday.

Three persons were said to have been killed including a mother and her child after a fuel tanker fell and went up in flames at MCC Bus stop near Toronto Hospital, Upper-Iweka, Onitsha.

Many houses along Iweka Road were burnt, some parts of Ochanja Market were affected while about six houses and vehicles were razed.

Reports say that it took over an hour for its neighbouring state’s fire service arrive at the location because of the distance and traffic on River Niger bridge and the Onitsha-Benin highway.

The Delta State Fire Service, on arrival, met a group of angry protesters, who threatened to burn the emergency vehicles for being late.

They blamed the Anambra State Government for the disaster by not providing fire-fighting equipment to the area.

The fire fighting vehicle soon ran out of water and the fire raged on till midnight.

Nigerians on Twitter have appeared unimpressed with Mr Obiano and have called for his resignation.

Fire incidents are bound to happen. Believe it or not, another will certainly happen somewhere soon. That's why Fire Department is essential part of social service in every society.

So, dear Gov. Willie Obiano
1. Spend Anambra money to set up well-equipped and functional fire stations and substations across Anambra state.

2. To avoid redundancy of personnel and inactivity that may impact on the functionality of equipment and state of readiness,
- Institute monthly mandatory fire drill for each station.
- Incorporate accident scene emergency response in the duties of fire service with purpose-built ambulances.

3. Hold head of fire stations responsible for failures.

It is not rocket science but just doing the right things the right way.

There's something inherently wrong with the black man. Imagine, throughout the whole of your state there's no functional fire service department, the one that came all the way from another state to help you out, you're threatening to burn it down for 'coming late'!

YES! Capital YES! I support them! He should resign immediately. Let's ask him: Where are the fire trucks donated by past Governor Peter Obi? What happens to those trucks?

All Eastern Governors are corrupt and wicked.

No road in Streets of Onitsha,Enugu,Awka,Umuahia,Owerri and Nnewi

It's high time we masses start beating and attacking these governors.

What have they been doing with Federal allocations,Tax payers money, paris fund and security votes running in billions of dollars?

watch the video how over 40 residential buildings got destroyed and scores of lives were lost in Onitsha

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27V8IzllMtI#menu

So the state government can't provide a fire service to
quench the fire outburst. This is height of insensitivity on their
part

Its the head of the fire service that should resign not Obiano... Obiano is not a firefighter

Why didnt they get down there and start evacuating people? Why were they nowhere to be found?

Its the Fire service, ambulance service, road safety, police and military who were supposed to go there and calm all those screaming people

All those useless soldiers that harass people every day where were they this is what they are trained for

What about the Red Cross and Salvation Army... did anybody call them

What a disaster

Most Nigerians in politics are power drunk. They should forget it. This one can never resign... But it's really sad tho! What happened yesterday is another clear proof that we're on our own as Nigerians.. I don't think we have any government.. May the soul of the departed rest in peace...... Death caused by fire isn't a good way to die at alllll

Those people blaming the Fire service and those calling Obiano a failure are acute denialists.

What did they expect him to do?
To use his bottle of Hero Beer to put off the flame or to use its fire to light his tobacco pipe?

The truth is,
The traders who couldn't put off the fire themselves are the lazy ones who failed all of us.

In a whole Onitsha an ordinary petrol tanker's flame could not be put off.
What's the essence of having River Niger then?

They were busy throwing sachet water on it when River Nigeria is just 70naira away from the scene of the accident.
Why didn't they go there with buckets to get water to put out the flame pending the arrival of the Fire Service trucks.

The religiously overzealous traders who normally lock up stores to observe midday mass were nowhere to be found as well.
Maybe their prayers would have brought down rain to douse the flames.

In fact, everyone is lazy and I am even lazy to type anymore.

There are times wen ur insensitivity may seem like bliss. Dis isn't one of those times.. Try know wen to use sense and wen not to

for naija?, no, politicians don't resign here. Waste of time and data.
They only react after a disaster, and still get applauds.

Very painful incident.

Please how is this Obiano's fault and why would any sane thinking person demand his resignation?
