What will happened? I know uromi well well . not a damn thing would happen especially if she marries a yoruba husband.

Yoruba's brain, actions and culture supersede that of d Esan people. The elders in uromi only wants traditional gifts from these christian couples.
Aunty Shut up ooooo

U don't have an idea what u are saying... Uromi is not a savage bush land but a booming town and even at that the rate at which traditions hold ground is stunning....
Hafa as an esan woman she should be married the legal way ooh ...forget grudges and do the proper thing...

I am a very strong Christian and I often dismissed some of this our uromi traditions as false...but after a family member secretly broke a tradition and delayed in rectifying it ..I was in support but after several occurances I was shocked ...until the something was done to remedy the effect...

Girl ...uromi laws take full effect if broken ....so go and sit down with ur ignorance and don't mislead this guy

just go and perform some traditional rite.. otherwise,u or ur kids could be affected.

there is a reason why mercy Johnson isn't acting romantic movies anymore...thats because she is married to an esan man.

if a man woo or toast the wife of an esan man,she is supposed to let her husband know

my mother lost his cousin some years back...the man and his son had a quarrel and his son told his dad that he isn't his father and also hauled insults at him.fews weeks after,he had an accident with no injuries.doctors did scan on him and nothing was wrong, yet he was sick..few days after he died.not up to a month after his demise, his son became sick..his mother later confessed how his son and his father had a brawl.

just last year,my mother lost his elder sister.she slept and never woke up.we all thought she died as a result of HBP....few months after her burial,a man told her son how his mother went to eat at a party in his ex-husband's home( which is forbidden)

another dangerous one is when a woman insults her husband or draw his peni.s during a fight... consequently, they could lose their kids

no matter how powerful u are ,even if u are a pastor..esan tradition doesn't respect anybody.. sometimes,I keep wondering the enforcers of this traditional laws
People, evil spirits...doctrines of demons..we have it all over Africa and some parts of the world in different forms. Any one who has not been redeemed from tribe and tongues is still bound to them....children born into such family too will in the name of "tradition"....and that's how it goes till it becomes generational. For every culture, bizarre or not, there is a deity (prince) presiding over it, guarding it, enforcing that people do it that way, because that's how they keep their reign over souls...

Well said.
sassysure:
So esan people are very wicked be that na.

More than half of esan people who commented had one bad experience or the other with their people.

They are still very diabolical.
Believe so much in spiritual stuffs.

Any wonder there is no development in edo state.

Useless traditional believes that does not move the people forward but retrogressive.

From what I gathered, If u are a married woman and commit adultery, u will die.
What about their married men?
Or the said tradition exempt them?

There are so many nonsense like this littered in igboland but the people came together and said enough is enough.
Although few towns are still into things like this but they too will abandon the nonsense.
Any traditional believe that rules out equality and progress is rubbish.

I appreciate ur contribution but meeting the family that never got our back isn't an option. They are not going to reap where they didn't sow.

First, we were very young when our parents died. My dad first, then her dad and then our mum.
Second, we don't know much about family cuz from what we learnt, family were against our mum that she didn't allow their son send them financial assistance.
Third, so called family shaved our mums hair and forced her to drink the the water used to bath her husband corpse in front of us, we were just children and the sight isn't good.

Meeting family isn't an option here, we moved on a very long time ago. I just want someone from around to share how things are done, that's all.

Whatever I will be collecting from the groom, I intend sharing your everyone that has one way or the other contributed to our life.

PS: No family know about about whereabouts for over 15 years now. Likewise we don't know where they stay.

How did your mum end up with two husbands?

Which family did all this? Your dads? Your step father's? Or your mom's?

how is her anger?

Esan ladies are known for their anger (e fit boil stone)

but they are also hardworking and would give their all to see the family succeed or go higher no matter what it takes, but if u take them for granted hmmmm OYO is your case
u just made me smile....what u said is 100 percent correct.esan women anger is worse than that of amadioha and sango...they are also powerful physically( some dey beat their husbands sef)..however,they are among the most hardworking, faithful and supportive wives in Nigeria..it's very difficult to see a cheating esan woman.

True, very interesting proverb/s.

I took the key words to translate the conceptual meaning, the literal one is what you described.

Abike: treasured child

Odi: opposite, tragedy, bad, negative, taboo

Oruko: name , identity, culture, tradition, roots

To ba wu: no longer bound or subject to, law unto yourself, do as you please, whatever you like, no judgement

Odi is border, boundary, in this case, transborder.

. As an Esan man, if u don't meet family members now, in the future u and your sister MUST surely look for them. Don't argue, just mark my words. Esan no be Yoruba oooo. I told my ex wife about Esan tradition but she waved it off and went into adultery, but at the end , she knew what she saw.
But they say they don't even know their mother's village.

lẹ́yìn odi means across the border (behind the border, which in other sense, means beyond one's cultural territory). Nations, tribes, and clans have both cultural and geographical boundaries. You get it...

My cousins faced a similar situation with yours. Dad's family maltreated and abandoned them.

They're 3 girls in the family. In all their weddings, their mom went to the Onogie's palace.

They told them what to do, sent representatives and collected the bride price.

This happened in esan land.

Look for any Ishan man to accompany you, go to the onogie of uromi's palace. Table your matter before him. It's quite simple and you will get a good response

First, they have to put their difference aside.
In this case, he or she need to come home. Marriage list and rites are not what you discuss on Facebook. They need to meet their parent's relatives since they are dead, and discuss this issue because it's delicate.

I think U are not in the position to give her out for marriage since both of u have the same mother and not the same father, now that u are both orphans it's the rite of the girl father's brothers to do so even when they fail in there duty to take care of her

Am Esan.Let me boldly tell you.Seek temporary peace inform her uncles, dont do the marriage in the village.Forgive and forget. There are even chances the family is looking to seek forgiveness from you.Do no listen to these ones telling you to just do court and rest. The repercussion varies and is not good.Do your best and leave the rest.Infact before you present yourself to them.sneak to the place and study.Mind you Uromi are the most cunny ones in Esanland. My grand fathers eldest
daughter just traced her roots last year at 65 years. At that age she is a nurse who has never been married and struggling to find her feet in life whereas her younger ones are all ok.Esan is different from a million tribes. For faster response and better views by elders and esans go to esan mega forum on facebook and ask your question.
