I'm an Esan. Traditional wedding or anything tradition in Esan land must be taking very serious. For ur own good and that of ur sister and her husband and also their unborn children, jut take ur hands off anything tradition on this wedding and let they jut do church wedding. If not pls and pls my brother let her go home to her father people before anything tradition is done. I also hope for ur own sake ur mother burial was done traditionally and ur sister father people were well informed about it. If not jut be ready to do ur mother burial for they. Those people not get joy my brother. From an Esan man from Uromi.

Do it your way. You are only answerable to God in this case. But if you must do it in Uromi way, then I know Schnapps,Local gin, Kolanut, Alligator Pepper,Yam must be involved.

I’m from uromi, if you need the marriage list, I could help you talk to dad to prepare one for you. However, I don’t think the approach you want to take is the best.

Kindly send a mail if interested. osejobeehichoya@gmail.com

Dear Uromite/Esan people,

I will be giving out my half sister in marriage. She's uromi while I am yoruba. Same mother but different dad. We both orphans left to fend for ourselves since we were little. No family and we want to stay far away from them cuz they didn't care to take care of us.

I would appreciate if uromi/esan people can give advice on how to go about marriage rites in esan land. Traditional wedding list and the likes.

Thank you all.

Wow. Is that your half sister's picture? Damn. Do you have another half sister? embarassed

My village is some few minutes away from uromi. The best advice you will get here today has already been given ....

Don't do anything remotely traditional. Do a court wedding and do a church wedding. Shikena. As long as she doesn't do trad marriage, she isn't married under their laws and so there is nothing that can happen to her.

I had problems with my family too and I had to do traditional weddings twice just to get it right

AssistntBoyfrnd take this advice. Don't do traditional. Go for registry and church weddings.

If you are going to do trad, family must be involved. If you don't want to involve family, then don't do trad.

As an Esan girl, either they took care of u or not, just look for one uncle and do it d traditional way. Calling ur pastor and church members is more like a white wedding done outside d church. Hope you're aware that when she dies no matter who she marry or where she is,her dead body will be taken back to Esan land and she can never commit adultery

No matter what, find out about the tradition list, and give what belong to them to them, don't play with tradition, is powerful.
Your own to going to marry a wife, but her own, she is to be given out, at least, all the uncles are not BAD.

As an Esan man I must advice you TEMPORARILY sue for peace at this time. Family is everything in our culture in Esan. I would advise for a successful wedding you need to make a temporary truce. The war or enmity can continue after the marriage ceremony but sadly family in Esan land are needed most in times of marriage and BURIAL.

Please, why are they needed and what's the tie about?

I'm sorry for what you and your sister have gone through. God will see u guys through.

The Esan land marriage is not like the Igbos where u must come home to do the rites. You are now the father of that family, all you need to do is to look for person in her dad's family (we call it the spokesman (osuoma) he will represent the family wherever you wish to collect the bride price. He will be the one to collect the list and pass messages without u having a direct contact with the other members of the family.

On the day of wedding proper he will be the one to speak and not you. He will be the one to check everything is complete. Then after everything, he will take the ones that belong to the kinsmen to them.

But please look for the Christian one. At least the one that has the fear of God

Wish you all the best

Esan ladies are known for their anger (e fit boil stone)

but they are also hardworking and would give their all to see the family succeed or go higher no matter what it takes, but if u take them for granted hmmmm OYO is your case

Guy u funny oooo. So d gal dad family didn't take care of her nd ur own dad family didn't take care of you abi. U got married without ur Yoruba kinsmen or family member nd nw ur sis wana get married without her own kinsmen or family member. Am glad u admit is jst d same mum, in Esan, u can't stand as her dad cox u don't share same father with her. Also d church encouraging both of u nt to seek your root in ur marriages don't wish u well
coz in future, u hv a lot to explain to ur children. As for d gal, is a taboo to get married in Esan land without the knowledge of your father's clan.
Even if you live abroad, someone will represent you here while d groom meet the gal's father family and pay her bride price. I believe Yoruba do not hv such culture but u can't alter Edo culture even if u re a pastor. Who so eva that takes dat bride price dats nt frm d gal's family only incure curses upon his life. Take ur sis nd go see any of her uncle. Let dem collect d bride price den leave d town. D bride price is small, they can't even use it to buy one bottle of red label so i don't see wr d ideal of they didn't train us is coming frm. Jst fulfil Esan tradition. Am frm Esan nd i am nt in support of dis ur plan.

That's because you are no orphan...we have people who don't know their extended family due to the way they behave to the parents when they were still alive. What I am saying is that it is only in your mind...that feeling of this can't happen without some people. It is a construct and stronghold many from this part of the world can't break away from. It is possible to sever myself from my genealogy and tribe and lineage and do the wedding as I deem fit. You don't expect me to go back to one wicked extended family or bad one just because I want to keep to one "fading" tradition. Many invite unnecessary battles into their lives when Providence has provided a way of escape for them. It all depends on the circumstance, either good, okay, bad, or ugly.
Muscholes:
. This is so true. Am from Uromi,we were also neglected by my family after the death of my dad but thanks to my mum, during my wedding we had to go back looking for my dad's family cos we were told that there will be no wedding without them.
