The FRSC confirmed on Monday that two persons sustained injuries at Onitsha in Anambra when two containers fell off an articulated vehicle at Upper Iweka on the Onitsha-Owerri highway.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that the accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m.

Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State has been witnessing tragedies week after week in recent times, especially at Upper Iweka, a hot spot in the city that is also home to many transport companies.

Kumapayi explained that the 20 feet containers fell off a Mercedes 911 articulated vehicle and damaged a

Volkswagen Golf car with registration number AU 813 NSH.

He said the articulated vehicle lost control, due to bad spots along the road, making the containers to fall, damaging the car and causing injuries to the driver and a passerby.

“Two persons sustained injuries, the driver of the car and a woman passingbye but no fatality was recorded.

“They have been taken to a nearby hospital and are responding to treatment,” the commander said.

Kumapayi said that efforts were going on to clear the bstruction caused by the incident, to restore traffic flow on the highway.

He, however, advised motorists to always put their vehicles in good working condition and drive with caution to avoid loss of lives and property.

The road safety man is very funny. He said the cause of the accident was the trailer dodging bad spots of the road.
And he was asking the motorists to make sure that their vehicles are in good working condition.
Is it the state of the vehicle or state of the road that caused the accident?

The people of the east side should wake up and start holding their governors and representatives responsible and not blaming Adamu in kano or Adewale in Abeokuta when something happens to them... The Hausa they love to hate have good road network intact the best in the country... Take places like Katsina for example every road is okay .... My Dear Eastern Brothers and sisters... Hold your governors responsible..you guys pays Tax

To those saying it's federal road I have this to say:

the North repaired most federal roads in their states and the federal government will pay them back in installments ..why can't Eastern government to the same to ease the pain of their people they vow to protect and serve? Imagine Anambra doesn't have fire service and relies on Delta state fire service when small city like Katsina has over 5 fire service outposts that I know off ... talk of more of the main one. Shame on Eastern governors and more shame on the Eastern that are not wise enough.

Onitsha is on village people mode at the moment.

The drunk of a governor should get to work and choose whether to restrict trailers or truck around Onitsha during the day or fix bad roads to prevent daily mishaps.

Me am relocating from Onitsha (FEGGE) to Awka. Before this tragedy reach Nnewi, Umunaya, Okuzu and enter Awka, I don relocate to Enugu. If it skips this places them it will hit me and Willie. Then it will be a fair play
