A Question For Nigerian Christians: Why Go On Pilgrimage To Isreal? by christ4mi(f): 9:41pm On Nov 10, 2010
Hello My Christian family, I want to ask somethings, lets reason with each other. Why do Christian go to Pilgrim in Israel?
Did Jesus ask us to do that? or are we just copying the Muslims?
The most annoying part is most people go to Israel without knowing the importance.
Lets compare us and the Muslim
The Muslims said that Pilgrim is part of their fundamental aspect of their religion, every year 3.5millions from all over the world combine in Saudi Arabia to Perform Pilgrim, while us the Christians have no such thing like, no Christians from around the can combine in that kind of figure in one country. Lets stop wasting our money going to Israel for pointless pilgrim, we are just copying the Muslims thats all.
However, in Israel, Christians are not the majority, The percentage are Jews 75%, Muslims 20% Non religious 3% and Christians 2%. Going to a country to Pilgrim where are the most minority, is that logical? Check Saudi Arabia over 96% are Muslims, Check Tibet over 97% are Buddhist, Check Varanasi City in India with 99% Hindu. Why are Christians different?
For those of us , that have visit Israel during this fake Pilgrim, will see some weird things. Like Nigerians are the only ones there no any other National unlike the Muslim Pilgrim.
And for those of us, who have enter the Dome of Rock, which was a formerly a Christian Holy site. Most perform ablution just like how Muslims does before praying, to be honest am confuse. Why do Have to do that in Israel. Please pass this message across, going to Israel is not a religious duty but copying other Religion.

Nice topic! Christ4mi I will modify your title just a little bit to be more descriptive if you don't mind.

There is certainly no biblical directive to perform pilgrimage to Isreal and I agree most people probably do it for the wrong reasons. However I want to believe some people may come out blessed and refreshed from undertaking a tour of where Christ walked while he was on earth.

yes nice topic, but you must realize that what we call pilgrimage is purely tourism. talking about we muslims and based on experience, journeying to holy land is like taking a tour, in saudi arabia you visit various historical sites and normally when it's time to pray, you pray. to say the fact, the saudi govt makes a hell of money from us on yearly basis. looking at the numerous alhaji(s) we have around, how many of them have really changed after performing the hajj. we still do our businesses as usual. we have many alhaji(s) that have looted the treasury of this nation more than any other persons. its only Allah that can really guide us.

From the way you are shining your teeth you must be laughting to yourself that you've deceived a few unsuspecting folks who have swallowed your deceit hook, line and stinker, that you are a "christian".  If you are truly a christian as you have claimed to be, can you tell us publicly here that Jesus Christ is your Saviour and Lord and that He is the Son of God? cool

We can call it Christian tourism. Holy pilgrimage is improper to use. The pilgrimage idea has led to more idolatry . People keeping Jordan water , for protection. Holy land oil. Dead sea water. Etc etc

Prof. Dauda Ojobi, a former Bishop, (who coverted to Islam many years ago) told us how “christian pilgrimage” started in Nigeria. He said it was started during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon. According to Ojobi, Gowon once complained that the Govt was spending too much money sponsoring the muslim pilgrimage. Gowon suggested that if all the muslims do in Saudi Arabia was to visit the Ka'aba why not just construct a similar one in Jos so that the muslims/Govt can stop wasting their money in a foreign land? The muslim leaders fought this vehemently. Gowon then gave up but suggested that the christians too should organize a similar pilgrimage. That was how it started.

I actually don't get it too, especially since Isreal is meant to be a Jewish nation, with people who don't believe in the worshipping of Jesus.

Did the Bible said u should not go? Why are you comparing the two? If u don't wanna go then allow people that want to go. And stop criticizing.

For the Christian, a pilgrimage to the Holy
Land is the pilgrimage par excellence. It is a
journey to the very source of Christianity, to
the very place where "the Word was made
flesh and dwelt among us". Visiting this pre-
eminent spiritual destination is truly an
experience of a lifetime and something not
to be missed.

Attesting to its powerful impact on the
visitor; William Johnston, author of the
acclaimed handbook on the Holy Land, says:
"Here the pilgrim who is open to God's grace
will be deeply enriched in the Faith, for the
mind will be filled with the awesome
wonder of so many sacred shrines and this
will be cemented in the heart never to fade"
