Saudi Arabia and Israel will be good examples to explain your question

Yes! War is part of the play. Religion is a tool used to propagate the act.

Every religious country is presently stockpiling war-heads

This is why China is saying no to religion, even their traditional religion

I will be the first to tell you that religion is of no use to anyone. It caters to the lowest common denominator, exploits irrational fears and superstitions and make even good men have rational excuses for bad deeds.

That being said, it will be disingenuous of me to characterise it entirely as such.

In an ideal world, religion will be unnecessary. It will be outdated and not even applicable to humans. Of course in such a world, humans would have involved into better specimens more capable of reining in their emotions, curbing their proclivities and are of a more altruistic disposition. Unfortunately we are not living in such a reality. At least not yet.

Our present reality and the extent of our intelligence sometimes make us need a believe in such higher authority to give life a meaning. It doesn't apply to everyone but it applies to the majority. We have evolved a sense of purpose and need such beliefs to keep our sanity together. For some people, straying from such an ideal will make them run amok and be dangers to themselves and their neighbours. That is the sad truth.

Countless times religion has helped in changing a notorious person for the better. An addict here. A violent husband there. A killer too sometimes. The examples are endless.

Religion still has its place in our current world, despite it being used to exploit the majority. It gives some purpose. It gives others a community. It helps. Sometimes. But most times it spreads ridiculous nonsense.

GreatResearcher I think you should change your title to reflect this question here. Your current title says "Does belief in God cause wars?" But the question in the OP is more nuanced than that. I belief this quest should be in the title instead. And then the question about wars just be in the OP.
