this is how our leaders will sell the next generations into slavery

to be frank the CCTV was deployed, but never commissioned. you will see them at corners in lagos. some have fallen down long since

i have to wonder at what game china was running with the CCTV. the really dangerous loans are infrastructure loans. they build a bridge, a road, a railway line - if you do not pay up, they simply take it over.

there is nothing to take over in this case, or maybe there is. maybe that is how the chinese will own domestic surveillance infrastructure in nigeria

This contract was for Abuja alone.

$460m was sent down the drain.without the CCTV ever working. That was when there was money in the economy and when their economy was working.

Where are the millions of stoves and phones they spent money for.rural areas?

May we never see those yester years of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves again

I love this from SERAP.
Beautiful.
Not expecting any response from the FG (because they wouldn't want to set a precedence), but at least they will know that not all Nigerians are daft. Well done SERAP.

I used to think that SERAP was pro-pdp, but with this, we can assume that they are actually pro-Nigerians.

Since these contracts were mostly signed during the PDP admin, response from the govt, assuming they are sincere, shouldn't be difficult.

They are our best civil society group....not fake political NLC nd TUC

Too true.
Lots of fakes, using pretence of activism to get bribes or political appointments. After that, silence. Where is our-mumu-done-do after Charlie Boy was accused of collecting govt cheddar?

Some ipobians are just talking gibberish on this nairaland.
All the loans and failed execution take place under the PDP especially the Jonathan Corrupt Regime, yet some ipobians pigs are shouting buhari name as if that alone will give them millions they are searching for..

Even if there are they are not related to this contract.

https://www.pulse.ng/news/zte-reps-say-chinese-contractor-scammed-nigeria-in-dollar470-million-cctv-project/s63ypl4

According to various media reports, the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the $470m Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) contracts awarded under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that the country has been swindled in the execution of the contract for the installation of CCTV cameras in Abuja and Lagos, which was awarded to the ZTE Corporation of China.

In a press statement issued by Hon. Ahmed Yerima, committee chairman, on Monday, the committee recalled how the 7th House of Reps conducted a similar probe in the past, saying that “forces” did not allow the report to see the light of day.

ZTE Corporation was said to have abandoned the projects after collecting an upfront payment of $100m, which represents about 20 per cent of this year’s N6.08trn budget.

The committee also stated that the non-completion of the projects also limited the capacity of security agencies to gather intelligence on the activities of criminal elements in the country.

“The contract for the installation of CCT cameras in Abuja and Lagos by the Ministry of Police Affairs, is part of a larger project titled, ‘Nigerian National Public Security Communications System, facilitated by an EXIM Bank of China loan.

“The CCTV camera installations is only an integral part of the entire project, which include the installation of 2,000 digital solar-powered cameras, 1,000 each for Abuja and Lagos; 37 switch rooms, microwave backbone; 37 coalition emergency response systems; 38 video conference sub-systems; 37 e-police systems; six emergency communication vehicles; and 1.5million phone lines for subscribers to generate revenue,” the statement said.

i think its the same. . .
