That's why I said you know next to nothing about the topic. Are you aware of the steps government has taken to boost local production?
Apart from your point about reduction of fuel prices (which won't happen), there's a lot government and it's partners have done to increase production. Effects which we are seeing today. There's lots of anchor-borrower programs which people can key into. State governments up north have since taken the leap even before the coming of Buhari with construction of dams for the purpose of irrigation farming to aid dry-season farming of rice.
Advanced rice processing mills are springing up around the country to further improve quality of locally produced rice.
But of course, unless Buhari comes down to till the land for me personally, I'm not going be impressed.

There is NOTHING wrong with trade! What govt is against is smuggling. What Ghana want is real trade. So the corridor should be opened.
In addition, importation of rice into Nigeria is NOT banned! If you import rice through any of the seaports, pay correct duty, you can sell your foreign rice. What govt is against is smuggling of rice into Nigeria while paying appropriate duty to Benin.
Oshiomole Should have told them importation of rice into Nigeria is not banned as long as they are willing to pay appropriate duty

There is hunger in the land, any intelligent govt will find a way around this proposal and not reject it outrightly like Osho has done. I'm not an economist but I know that there's what is called "comparative cost advantage". If Vietnam should come with this kind of proposal then nigerian govt should accept it for the mean time to mitigate hunger but then think of what they will export to Vietnam in return for the favour done to vietnam.
