Does The Bible Discriminate Against Women? by Nobody: 8:48am On Nov 13, 2010
TERTULLIAN, a third-century theologian, once described women as “the devil’s gateway.” Others have used the Bible to portray women as less important than men. As a result, many people feel that the Bible discriminates against women.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a 19th-century pioneer for women’s rights in the United States, felt that “the Bible and the Church have been the greatest stumbling blocks in the way of women’s emancipation.” Of the first five books of the Bible, Stanton once said: “I know of no other books that so fully teach the subjection and degradation of woman.”

While some today might hold such extreme viewpoints, many still feel that some parts of the Bible support discrimination against women. Is such a conclusion justified?

Whatever discrimination was in the Old Testament. Not just against women, there was discrimination against the Gentiles as well. But now in christ male female, gentile and Jews are now one.

Galatians 3:28
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

In Christ, there is no discrimination against women! A woman gave birth to Jesus; Women were the first to be given the ministry of evangelism, they were the first ones told to go and tell the news that Jesus had risen; Wives are to be loved like Christ loved the church to the extent that he gave his life for the church!

@Seyibrown: Show me a word in OT or before Jesus began to pray in th Garden of Geshamine that roughly means "Church". You will begin to gain my respect. Do the Jews, the 12 nations that Jesus bloodline belong to know anything about Church? Did John, his father Zacharias who were contemporaries of Jesus entered a single Church to pray? Was it in a church that the Angel told Zacharias that he will be having a son?

Straight answer; Yes, the bible does. Denying that will be pretty disingenuous. The bible is very clear on where it stands as far as the women's position in the religious community is concerned.

How Women Are Viewed in the Hebrew Scriptures

“Your craving will be for your husband, and he will dominate you.” (Genesis 3:16) Critics point to this as a judgment of Eve by God and as divine approval of woman’s subjection by man. However, rather than a declaration of God’s purpose, this is an accurate statement of the sad consequences of sin and rejection of God’s sovereignty. Abuse of women is the direct result of mankind’s fallen nature, not God’s will. Wives in many cultures have indeed been dominated by their husbands, often in very harsh ways. But this was not God’s purpose.

Both Adam and Eve were made in God’s image. Moreover, they received the same mandate from God to become fruitful, fill the earth, and subdue it. They were to work together as a team. (Genesis 1:27, 28) Clearly, at that point neither was cruelly dominating the other. Genesis 1:31 says: “God saw everything he had made and, look! it was very good.”

The bible does not discriminate against women. Such issues, questions are always diversionary and at times blasphemous. How can one say women are the 1st evangelists? What about the desciples that Christ sent, the ones that were to dust their sandals when rejected in a town or house? Maybe God understands the nature of the woman or something if not why is that from Gen to Rev all the people, prophets, kings, slaves servants,, are 99% men? Such rants are more or less anti christ like, imagine one woman minister saying Vashti was right and the king wrong to have asked her dance! when God had a plan, meaning God was wrong!
