Do you know how much building that whole city cost. Most of the best cities in the world come about organically. Berlin is not the centre of Germany. Neither is Paris or London. London has always, always been congested. Do you see the brits arbitrarily throwing money down the thames trying to build another city. Go to Abuja and see how different it is from Regular cities like Akure, Aba or Lafia. Instead of developing what we have , we threw money down the drain based on tribalism. Do you think the North for any reason will let the south have the capital city. Hell no. They are not even going to give back the presidency.

Please note that the old Kwara State donated Abaji part of the FCT.

How Abuja Was Chosen as Nigeria’s Capital
The problems associated with the capital being in Lagos, such as population pressures, political and ethnic divisions, led to the search for a new capital in 1976. Abuja was selected from among 33 possible sites.

Physically located in the centre of the country and viewed as neutral both ethnically and religiously, it is where culture and religion meet.

The criteria used for selection included: centrality, healthy, climate, land availability and use, water supply, multi-access possibilities, security, existence of resources, drainage, good soil, physical planning convenience and ethic accord.

The Emir of Abuja at the time, Alhaji Suleiman Barau, was asked to meet with his Emirate Council to approve contributing four of the five districts to Abuja to become the new capital.
The council was divided as some districts considered it too much of a sacrifice; but at the end, they approved the request from the Federal Government.
Thus, the Abuja in Niger State contributed 80% of the land of the territory, Plateau State (now Nassarawa State) contributed 16% of the South east territory and Kwara State (Now Kogi State) contributed about 4% of the south-west territory.

Gongola State is a former administrative division of Nigeria. It was created on 3 February 1976 from Adamawa and Sardauna Provinces of North State, together with the Wukari Division of the then Benue-Plateau State; it existed until 27 August 1991, when it was divided into two states - Adamawa and Taraba. The city of Yola was the capital of Gongola State.

Yeah IBB is effectively Yoruba through his paternal grandparents whose roots are in Ogbomosho.

Abuja was never part of the southwest in any form though

Please learn from history. It was Gen Murtala Mohammed that approved the relocation of Federal Capital to Abuja in 1976.

And ibb the builder.
