Dangote actually got license under Jonathan but construction didn't start till Buhari came in and issued more than ten license to other companies to build more refineries.

Dangote Oil Refinery Company is constructing an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Refinery which is said to be producing 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) at completion is already attracting interests and attentions from all nuks and crannies.

The refinery site was visited on Saturday by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, in company of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) General Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari.

Speaking about what the Minister saw on ground, the Minister said, “ This is one of the impressive projects, if not the most impressive project , we have seen done by a Nigerian. It is a very encouraging development , and for us as government , we have also resolved to support this project fully .

“ In terms of support , it will be in the areas of feedstock and off -take . Government will guarantee some of these things . But all these will come out of discussions with the President of Dangote Group. Once they put their needs on the table , we will look at them and see how to narrow the gap,” he Concluded.

Yes. Yet Dangote is showing bravery plunging a massive amount of his money into a project pivotal for the development of Nigeria that no one, not even the FG, showed the appetite to take on. Let the man profit from the fruit of his labour because Nigeria profits far more. I understand the refinery's output will meet domestic demand 100% and even provide PMS and refined derivatives of crude we can export to gain income and foreign exchange. The greatest thing to happen to Nigeria since 1999 in my opinion.

I dey wait for when Dangote to build a Rice refinery and Oil mill in Nigeria.

It will help with availability of processed petroleum products. Save money spent on fuel importation subsidies. Add electricity to the power grid. And more.

It may not initially, because massive investment Dangote sunk in has to be clawed back, but prices should come down in the end. What we can look forward to also are the massive and unquantifiable associated gains for Nigeria. Fuel subsidy over-invoicing scam that has robbed Nigeria of billions of dollars over the years would stop immediately. Fuel scarcity and the awful situation of Nigerians queuing for hours to buy fuel should be over.

Dangote refinery will have the capacity to quadruple our gas supply. This will be massive for our drive toward 24/7 power for the entire Nation. These are just a few pluses. The benefits are many and massive. I personally cannot wait for the refinery to begin operation.

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, plans to quadruple the supply of gas to Nigeria by building pipelines that may be backed by Carlyle Group and Blackstone Group, the world’s two biggest private-equity firms.

Dangote, who has a net worth of $15 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, will invest $2.2 billion to $2.5 billion in two sub-sea 550-kilometer (341-mile) pipelines running from Nigeria’s oil and gas-producing Niger River delta region to the commercial hub of Lagos, Dangote, 58, said in an interview.

The pipes will increase the amount of gas available in Africa’s biggest economy to 4 billion standard cubic feet/day from 1 billion, he said.

While Nigeria has gas reserves of about 180 trillion cubic feet, more than any other African country, most of what’s produced is flared or exported because of a lack of infrastructure to transport it to local companies and households. Boosting domestic supply will help increase electricity generation in a country where power cuts are common and about 70% of electricity plants are fueled by gas, according to Dangote.

“Having an additional 3 billion scf will sort out all the gas issues we have today in Nigeria,” he said in the lounge of his house in the Victoria Island district of Lagos, overlooking a half moon-shaped swimming pool. “It’s badly needed.”
