Not once, not twice, have we seen big clubs got eliminated from the Champions League group stages. It happened to Chelsea in the 2012/2013 season, it happened to Manchester United in the 2015/2016 season - and it seems like we could be served that kind of fun this season.

Chelsea, Ajax and Valencia are all tied on seven points and it would not have been like that if not for those minor mistakes - but those mistakes have always been one of the fun parts of football - imagine if Barkley had left that penalty to Jorginho against Valencia - imagine if Valencia had not conceded a late equaliser against Lille. However, they have happend and here we are.

Chelsea could be eliminated from the group stage - let's be frank, any of those three in that group could be. Chelsea are primed to face Valencia next while Lille will host Ajax. The focus, on that matchday, would not be in France - the focus would be in Spain, where Chelsea wil be playing Valencia. If Chelsea lose to Valencia and Ajax win against Lille, both winners will be on 10 points and Valencia would be qualifying irrespective of what happens against Ajax and how wide the score margin is if Chelsea beat Lille. Why, right? Because Champions League prioritizes head-to-head over goal difference and Valencia would have done a double over Chelsea. Assuming the Chelsea and Valencia illustration happens, Ajax would need just four points to qualify - beat Lille and draw Valencia or draw Lille and Beat Valancia, just do both and show why you're Ajax. If everything happens like that, Ajax and Valencia will go through with Ajax topping the group and Chelsea on their way to the 'prestigious' Europa League.

However, Chelsea could beat Valencia with any scoreline other than the first leg's own, lose to Lille and still qualify - irrespective of what happens in the Ajax vs Valencia game. Chelsea could draw Valencia, beat Lille and still qualify irrespective of what happens in the other match - the only problem with this theory is that Chelsea will be playing at home against Lille and we all know what has been happening at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League this season. If you're not a Chelsea fan, just enjoy with your popcorn.

Unlike Chelsea, Barcelona actually need to mess this up if they want to play in the Europa League. Barcelona are on top with eight points, Borrusia Dortmund are 2nd with seven points and Inter Milan are 3rd with four points. The only way Barcelona could be eliminated is if they lose to Dortmund and Inter and Inter beat Slavia Prague, which is quite possible. Barcelona have been very inconsistent this season but it will be crazy to lose at home to Dortmund and then lose to Inter.

The downside for 'haters of Barcelona' is that Messi is still a footballer and he is in fact, playing for Barcelona - he really could decide to have a field day. The upside for y'all is that Barcelona have been messing things up recently and if Roma and Liverpool could do it, Inter Millan and Dortmund can!
