I love being practical about everything. So here, we'll treat all the challenges from practical experiences and we will come up with solutions that have worked over time. I hope that by the time we are done, years you'll face those challenges like they are nothing. Let's get straight to work.

10 Challenges Faced In Writing a Book And How to Overcome them

Lack of Ideas

Some find it easier to adopt someone else's idea or concept, but find it very difficult to create one independently. Some actually have a starting idea, but lack ability to flesh up that little idea with more ideas.

If you ask me, I'll tell you to pause and do something else. Never force ideas to come into your head or you'll have a frustrated writing. People reading your book will feel the struggle you underwent to write the story. In stead, take out time to do something new. Observe nature, go for mountaineering, ski, swimming, watch football games, go for morning jug.

Do something different, like you would if you had a writer's block. Only that you will be extra attentive to everything around you, observing meditatively. It's a matter of time before ideas begin to flow.

Writers Block

This is not abnormal. It happens a lot. The brain is no machine. When the brain gets overheated, one begin to look like one without idea at all. While both look alike, the one with writers block is only temporarily down without idea or inspiration. The other who lacks idea is a little more than just a temporary thing.

Here is how to deal with this writing malaria called writer's block. Quit writing. You heard me right. Take a break from writing. Engage in something totally away from writing. Get enough sleep, go watch some movies, hang out with friends, go for exercise, etc. And when you are back, you'll be as fresh as a writer about to start, and the writer's block of a thing will be as good as gone. Try it!

Lack of confidence

For one reason or the other, some people simply don't have confidence. As a matter of fact, some cling unto writing in order to avoid facing the crowd and the world. Thing is, regardless of your skills, expertise, and experience; they are all nothing without confidence. Confidence in writing on some issues, or against things you don't believe in has a way of changing the vibe of your book. So, to make it like the likes of Dan Brown, J K Rowling, etc, you must learn to grow confidence by all means. It will obviously affect your writing and your thinking, positively.

High Level of Competition

Yes, the world is producing more and more writers and people who write, everyday. You can literary see how competition has made several people's book to end their journey in the publishers desk still as manuscript. But instead of being scared of competition, embrace it! Look, the more the competition the more the opportunity you have to offer more value. There’s high tendency that very few people will think from that perspective and do the same.

Lack of Finances/Sponsors

Perhaps if writing a book don't need financing to publish, everyone will be an author. Many starters don't have the ability to pay a professional editor, let alone publish the book. Some go ahead to publish it with a local publisher which makes their book look amateurish after print, starting from the page cover to the choice of font, paper, paper size and packaging.

If you are in similar situation, then it's high time you understand two concepts of writing of writing. There is the art of writing (which deals with knowledge and skill put into the work) and there is the business of writing (which deals with how to make your work financially gainful). Having done the art, devise means towards the business of it. Seek sponsors. Strike a deal with people, to return their money with 5% percent on it if they sponsor the publishing of your book. Talk to family and friends. Meet experienced authors, tell them of your financial challenges and seek their advice on how to gather fund. You'll be surprised at what you'll get in return. So you see? Finances is not as much problem as you thought.

The Perfectionist Mentality

This is general to all writers. We all struggle with this. It is in our biological makeup as writers. We will hardly release anything for publishing except it is our best. It's a trap. Some would stay on a chapter, and every time they visit it, they find some error that they need to correct, and doing so, they remain on a spot. This not only prolongs the time for publishing, it also makes the writer to lose interest in writing when he/she is barely half way. Overcome it once and for all by remembering that there is no one that's perfect. We are all striving for perfection, and those who wait to be perfect before they give writing a trial will die unfulfilled, having written no book at all. It's better to start the way you are and improve with feedbacks. The biggest room in the world is the room of improvement.

Creating enough time

Not many writers meet their financial needs and pay their bills through writing books. Therefore most writers usually have a supportive job. Coupled with other responsibilities, writers usually complain of lack of time. Creating time therefore becomes a war. Here is my suggestion. In order to overcome lack of time as a challenge in writing a book, the Why of the book must be very strong. It must be something you think of and get refired to write on. Set a goal for the book including starting date and date of completion. Set a price for yourself.

Lack of discipline

Some writers would rather spend more time telling people that they want to write a book or that they are writing a book. Others give lots and lots and lots of excuses why they haven't gone far with their book, instead of owing up and facing the work squarely.

But here is a working strategy - tested and trusted: if you are to write 50,000 words of a book in 3months, then deciding to write a minimum of 1000 words in a day is not a bad way to start. Discipline is the act of making uncomfortable decisions and sticking to it no matter what.

Usage of Words/Grammar

Many of us, even English native speakers, struggle with the choice of words and use of grammar. Some see this as a threat to their career in writing. By why the fear? Why not be who you are and allow yourself to make mistakes? Or are you a perfectionist? Well, even perfectionists make mistakes. Even perfectionists had a beginning...a humble one. Instead of worry about whether your written English is good enough or not, why not let your editor and proofreader do the worrying? If I were you, I'll rather get busy associating with people who are good with the English language so that my use of the English language will improve over time.

It is a true saying that practice makes perfect. So, spend quality time reading. Read quality blogs that focus on helping people become better writers. And more importantly, spend more time writing and writing and writing.

Finishing a book

It's often fun to start a new book. Wait until it's few chapters to go. This is when the struggle begins. In stead of letting your brain tell you to pause because the book is not good enough, deceive your mind with tales like you'll get a rewarded after completion. Suspend all other things and promise yourself not to take on any project or work until you are done with the book.

One of the most important things about Windows 10 is its telemetry gathering. Windows uses telemetry to identify security issues and resolve software problems. There is so much telemetry gathering in Windows 10 that it is just amazing. Of course, there might be a good purpose, like to improve Windows 10 features and services, behind the data collection.
