Before transporting such patients, you stabilize the neck region with a collar, if unavailable; improvise with even a carton or logs of wood... Anything to make sure that neck doesn't move.

The reason the back seat isn't advisable is because when there is a spinal cord injury, any movement would most likely worsen it. And putting such patient on a back seat will keep him in a folded posture further arching the spinal cord... Plus, because the back seat isn't spacious enough; he's worse of when the car makes bumpy movements

If he sits up straight he's already dead. Better give him a neck brace and use stretcher
